It seems that people on this thread are either getting pissed off with each other or pissed off with politicians.

The one clear thread is that humans are annoying and our demise will make the world a better place. I'll vote for whoever wants to use nuclear weapons.

Those aren’t threats...

Those are articles pointing out that if we no deal and disrupt supply chains we don’t have stockpiles to see us through. It’s not the EU threatening us.

They were threats. If Brexit happens we will run out of drugs. But we won't.

I get pissed off with one thing mainly. Lies. Used by most politicians and many on here.

Labour. Back from LDs.

Fair amount of the remain vote is undecided and breaking for Labour as well.

Edit: when I say “Labour” I mean that’s who they voted for in 2017.

I voted Labour in 2017. Name a year and if there was an election I would have voted Labour. But this time we have a leader that won't say what he will campaign for if he wins.

I'm not voting this time. No way could I give my vote for Corbyn. But nobody else deserves it either.

I know Dom thinks it is fine, the kind of leaflets the Conservatives are putting out, but if I was a floating voter I wouldn't want to hear why I shouldn't be voting Labour, I would be wanting to hear why I SHOULD be voting Tory.

Making the point the other party is crap is not really selling yourself at all.

It's getting a bit like the US, where it is just a constant slating of the opposition

Also, none of their leaflets have any blue on them, just to make sure that they don't go straight in the bin.

AT least the two Labour ones we have had have national policy and local issues on them. There is a bit of negative stuff on the Tories which is a shame.

Had one from the Greens which was policy focused. Nothing from the Lib Dems who have died a death in the two Northampton policies.

The planet is dying anyway - nobody gives a fuck, but as long as Brexit gets done all will be fine apparently

I don't see a problem with it as long as it is fact based and not on hearsay. Then nobody can be blamed on stretching the truth.

Yes they would have to eliminate NICE which is sometimes controversial - but I actually have a fair amount of faith in. It has been known to recommend drug use off-label as well as deny recommendation when all the available (weak?) Evidence suggests a benefit - but at an inflated price.

I think I did hear that this was part of their wishlist, but am 80% confident that this will not happen.

The monopoly thing is simply extending patent life. The perverse thing is that a patent has a limited lifespan. Maybe the patent should only start running out after it is launched in the marketplace. For example cannabis oil has been around for monkey's years. It's use is limited by its licence for use. To get a licence lots of expensive research has to be done. Because it has no patent...nobody wants to pay for the research.
On the other hand of course companies pay many many millions researching & developing drugs & a small number go through to eventually prescribed.

So it is understandable why Pharma want (& need) to make a handsome profit. Otherwise drugs we currently have for bacterial & viral cases for example eventually become useless. Then there are increasingly drugs being developed to treat rarer conditions - often criticised as being expensive, but make a huge difference to patients needing some medical intervential.

Check out Katy Piper's eye damage from her acid attack. A very expensive drug actually helped restore her sight. Worth the the money? She would say yes, many might argue not...but when you look at drug wastage by patients not taking what is prescribed, & the cost of the consequences (expensive hospitalisation for some conditions)...it is probably worth every penny!

My background is software rather than medicine so my dislike of patents comes from the abuse there. I accept there’s a huge R&D cost to recoup but I don’t buy the idea that we’d stop innovating without patent protection. Most innovation comes from building on previous ideas so I’d argue there’s as much progress held up as pushed forward but accept that’s a difficult argument. It’s why Labour have come up with the nationalised pharma policy I think, which has its own issues. But the general point that need should drive medical research rather than profit motive is a sound one IMO.

I’d hope R&D costs come down with new computer models that can do a lot of the creation and cross checking, and that we could loosen up some of the regulatory hurdles as well.

I don’t share your faith Im afraid. But that comes down to a fundamental mistrust of this set of Tories and their stated positions on free markets and healthcare and their idolisation of the States.

Always appreciate your input on this topic. Thanks.

No Deal, not Brexit. And yes we would because of supply chain issues. That’s half the issue with no deal.

I had one. There was absolutely nothing on there which they couldn't have done in the last 9 years but haven't bothered so I won't hold my breath that they'll do it this time.

Not very. As I keep saying to you I won’t be massively impacted. I’ll feel for my friends on low wages or benefits though and I’ll be sad that I used to live on one of the greatest countries on Earth and now live in a worldwide laughing stock. Much like the Americans right now.

Which of his policies are you most excited for after Brexit happens?

Like it or not, we elect the individual not the political party.

The prospective MPs character, ethics and morality is a major contributing factor when the public decide whom to represent them or not in Parliament. It just doesn't come down to just which colour rosette they are wearing.

Although I can't speak for everybody I vote for the policy not the person. If I agreed with Tory policy I'd stomach having Alexander as PM. I don't like Swinson but Lib Dems are currently one of the two I'm considering.

Only time I let a person affect my judgement was when I was undecided and the Lib Dem candidate came across a totally arrogant and untrustworthy, so I ruled them out purely due to him. He got done a few years later for fraud.

I have been undecided before and when I have had a leaflet from a party simply slating the opposition, all it has done has made me angry with that party and much less likely to vote for them.

I am getting equally pee'd off with Get Brexit Done from Boris and Stop Brexit from Swinson.

So for you the Corbyn strategy is actually being reasonably effective?

I think part of this return to 'blame the other party' is since the LD went AWOL and we returned to an almost two-party system - each feels the only thing they have to do is beat the other main party rather than also having to worry about others. Why politics is so toxic in the US with the two-party system.

It's also one of those things whereby the behaviour of the public towards MP's has deteriorated because of the way they play up to the cameras in the chamber with the shouting out and name calling. I'm sure it's far more civil behind the scenes but if you're going to have them showing a complete lack of respect for each other in the chamber is it any wonder some members of the public feel it's totally acceptable to show them no respect? It'd be like a teacher sitting in a colleagues class and just shouting out abuse or interrupting their lesson, and then when the kids in their lesson start to heckle them complaining about their bad behaviour.

But what's your stance on darts? Or knowing when the fruit machine will pay out?

I think it's a subtle metaphor cos in one of those photos she's clearly about to rip a massive hole in the red cloth.
