Future to be debated in Westminister (14 Viewers)

Not too sure what the government of FL can do. The ones who broke off talks were Wasps so they would seem to be the ones who have to be pressed to come back to the table.

Everything will be fine Nick, I don't know why everyone's getting so het up. The council promised that selling to Wasps wouldn't have a negative effect on the club, remember.

Westminster Hall debate isn't exactly top box office. It isn't a debate in the Commons/Lords. And fed up of telling folk about the uselessness of using EDMs as a measure of support. There are thousands of them and most amount to less than zero.

EDM 442 (nice touch) on the future of Coventry City has received support from 18 MPs. Not really sniffing at this as it has just been launched and it has support from MPs of all parties and from every part of the U.K. as it happens.

An EDM on the retirement of a member of staff from the HOC catering service has 76 signatories,

MPs posturing to no effect. They've done similar debates on this topic before and they proved pointless.
Unless SISU & Wasps talk or (less likely) SISU build a ground the situation remains the same.

This was what I was thinking, slightly ironic when the council were quick to vote the sale but now we must save the club. Trying to get votes methinks....

WASPs do not like negative publicity! just need Jim Cunningham pissing in the secretary of States ear about it - whispers do far more good in the corridors of Parliament.

Raises the issue but in truth raises the issue to those who are interested already. So it achieves what exactly? Yes it looks like the MP's are doing something but how does it help resolve things

I really do not see how raising the issue in Parliament forces Wasps or SISU to change their positions. It is a private arrangement. Most people on the outside will look at it, not know the back ground and conclude Wasps asking for legals to be dropped is reasonable - then move swiftly onwards. So not sure how damaging it will be for Wasps. Equally SISU can portray to investors how strong they can be in standing up for investors.

Just looks like more window dressing to me - but apparently I am quite cynical

OSB, if all this didn't make you cynical you'd some kind of saint, or possibly rather naive.

Happy to recommend you for the former, though as I recall you'll need at least one witnessed miracle to qualify. Sorting this out would probably cover it. :)

Spot on. I've been to Westminster Central Hall for a union thing years ago, it's a few minutes walk away from the Houses of Parliament but crucially in the opposite direction to Westminster station!

so, exactly what do we make of this cov telegraph article ?
the MP's ask questions of the FL, the FL, imho,
have previously gone out of their way to avoid making a decision,
do we presume that the MP's are concerned over the club's owners ?
do we assume that the future of CCFC will be cemented as playing in Coventry ?
is legislation of right & proper ownership an aim of the MP's ?
i'd hope that the EDM is not just window dressing, but,
imho, the amount of monies involved in this squabble is liable to mean an entrenched position by all sides,
perhaps the message should be that when you shuffle off this mortal coil 'you can't take it with you'

The best it will achieve is pointing out the perils of letting a hedge fund or speculator buy a football club or a public asset like a football ground. Helpful to other clubs but the horse has bolted in our case.

It is highly unlikely Wasps will come back to the table until legals are dropped which it unlikely in itself, if the demise of the club happens which is looking like it might the local MPs can say that they tried. Whatever they say in parliament SISU will probably disagree with if it does not go their way, just like that JR that they so much wanted.
There might be a glimpse of a chance Wasps could move a bit as they are here for the long term and need to make friends not enemies and a slating in parliament could make there PR people and investors a bit uncomfortable.

I think this is positive news, this debate can't solve anything but I keeps things in the public eye, not for us plebs but their are organisations who use firms like sisu. And sisu will not like their name dragged through the mud at that level, and nothing they can really do about it either, well that's my opinion anyway.

Typical comments on the article, I don't think any of them care about the club as long as sisu get a kicking.

Well yes I and at a guess many others would love to see SISU get a kicking, no ordinary kicking a full blown Goodfellows style one with baseball bats and Cuban heals.

Not sure where you get the idea that there are people excited about this fuck up.

The club is very close to the edge as it stands currently. In 2 years there is the possibility there will not be a club for us to squabble about.
The only way for anything to move forward is for SISU to drop the futile legal action, no one else can do that only them, but they point blank refuse.

Look on twitter and the CT site. Things like this announcement today are celebrated as SISU getting their due except, even if the football club ceased to exist, it would have at best minimal impact.

SISU had there due at the high court but the "judge did not understand the law".(T.Fisher), their skin is very thick.
I guess a couple of local MPs will under parliamentary privilege lay into them quite hard to appease the voters but SISU will only wince at most, and issue a denial and say its part of a conspiracy to drive them out the city.

It might make a paragraph 4th in from the back page in a national newspaper, meanwhile in Birmingham The CT will piss themselves in delight because they have little else but to write about except making up bullshit transfer stories.

It will achieve nothing apart from being a release of anger for the pitch fork mob, of which I am a member.

Suggestions of a ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena never got out of the starting blocks after land leaseholder Chris Millerchip said plans for developing the site did not include CCFC. That stance was repeated by Mr Millerchip when asked again by the Telegraph this week.

Will he be asked to explain and also reconsider? Or is it only the Ricoh they want to keep propping up?

Complete and utter waste of time. This won't affect any of parties who are all to blame for this but at the end of the day won't take any responsibility meanwhile this once proud club could and probably will become a footnote in football history. Never mind at least I saw and was part of the good times.

He does not want to deal with SISU. In this case it's a good thing as that ground and area is just to small.

I just wonder what any spat between CCFC and SISU has to do with someone who lives in America?

It could be because he has a vested interest in the lease and an emotional interest in the future of Cov Rugby.

Having seen the predicament of CCFC under SISU's tenure, he may well be right not to want anything to do with SISU.
