Who is worth it?

A Premier League player who fills the void we have in the squad seems the opportune time.

Should we go up the wage structure would be increased anyway

If we go up nothing's a problem, but if we don't it's a big contract to be saddled with for a long time, for a player that probably wouldn't be the easiest to get rid of.

I agree with you. This guy has also played a good amount of games in both the Prem and the Bundesliga, this isn't some dud that can't get a game for a French league relegation candidate like the generic Birmingham signing, there is decent pedigree there. Funny what some will turn their noses up at now.
I do think loan with obligation/option would be best for us but if other parties are putting the pressure on to do more and we think the player will be useful then we may have to be flexible with that. I think now is the time to be flexible.

I'd imagine we would be able to ship him off overseas should we need to.

I'd rather risk that, than not get him in and risk promotion.

If we just need someone with poor technique to run around a lot we have Eccles and Allen right there. We need challenge for Torp.

He has some fantastic defensive attributes. He is a totally different profile to both Eccles and Allen.

His "Poor" technique is at Premier League level and Bundesliga level, not Championship level where theres less reliance on technical ability

We have not had such an effective high press in the last 10 ganes, but from my position that has largely been due to us not having BTAs energy and Torp (who is great at pinching the ball) together in the same team breaking things up and starting quick counter attacks.

As much as we all have to cope and seethe a little that Brentford are significantly better than us, comparing this player to Jamie Allen in mental.

Who out of our current CMs would you classify as a ball winner?

Grimes is the closest we have. Would this guy get in ahead of him? Seems unlikely. So you’re just removing passing ability and set piece quality for a limited destroyer? Just doesn’t seem like what we need tbh.

Comparing Allen and Eccles is a bit harsh
Eccles is a far better player

Also if we’re spending this much let’s just go the whole hog and get Gus back

You put him in the side so Grimes can do what he does without being overrun in midfield when we’re out of possession.

But you lose: goals, passing ability, all left sided in swinging set pieces.

Torp brings a lot that you’re throwing out the window for not a lot it seems. I’d rather someone who has the basics of a midfielder (technical ability and vision) and is a threat at both ends. Like the guy he’d be replacing.

Going for this type of player, we could have just gone for Ebou Adams at 500k (going to Pompey)

Defensively he covers every blade of grass and is a monster. His defensive numbers are brilliant and not to mention he bullied our entire midfield at Pride Park in the 24/25 season.

I asked copilot to summarise fan thoughts at Augsburg from his loan there:

Summary of Augsburg Fans’ Opinions on Frank Onyeka

Overall Fan Sentiment: Very Positive

Augsburg supporters generally view Frank Onyeka’s loan spell as a success and consider him a valued, hard‑working midfield presence.

Key Themes from Fan Sentiment

1. Appreciation for his Work Rate and Grit

Fans consistently praised Onyeka for his:
  • Ball‑winning ability
  • Relentless energy, tackling, and coverage
  • Discipline and physical presence in midfield
    [talktalknigeria.com]
These qualities earned him admiration as a “silent warrior” whose contributions were vital even if not always headline‑grabbing.

2. Seen as a Key Part of Augsburg’s Midfield Balance

Reports note that he became an important cog in Jess Thorup’s midfield structure, providing:
  • Defensive stability
  • Tactical discipline
  • Leadership through effort
    [talktalknigeria.com]
Supporters viewed him as someone who improved the team’s midfield consistency.

3. Fans Will Miss Him After Loan Expiry

Augsburg’s public farewell message, which reflects wider fan sentiment, emphasized:
  • Gratitude for his commitment
  • Recognition of his impact over the season
  • A sense of loss now that the loan has ended
    [talktalknigeria.com]
The club’s tone signals that fans saw him as a positive contributor who exceeded expectations.

4. No Major Negative Fan Sentiment Reported

Across official statements and reporting, there is no indication of significant criticism from Augsburg supporters. Most commentary centers on:
  • His hard work
  • His reliability
  • His important role in the squad

In Short

Augsburg fans appreciated Frank Onyeka for his tireless work ethic, defensive strength, and team‑first mentality. Many believe he will be missed and that he exceeded expectations during his loan spell.
[talktalknigeria.com]
If you’d like, I can also summarise:
  • How Brentford fans view him
  • His statistical impact at Augsburg
  • Whether Augsburg might pursue a permanent deal (based on reporting)

Well he's played over 70 games in the Prem, a season in the Bundesliga and over 40 caps for Nigeria... vs Ebou Adams.
This place sometimes.

So as I say we’d lose all that Torp offers. We have seen all season this system work. It seems silly to spend £8m to rip it up now.

Torp is unlikely to be fit for the entirity of the rest of the season.

This allows us a defensive option in midfield when defending leads to, allowing Grimes and Onyeka to play as a double pivot.

Fair comments I suppose.

I haven’t seen Onyeka play so I am only going off the Brentford fans comments about how he is terrible on the ball or driving up the pitch but if defensively great. Which is basically Ebou Adams.

The longer this one drags on, it makes me wonder if we have any legitimate interest or if it’s agent talk considering our position.

@Voice of brentford have you heard anything on your end?

Yeah but £7.5m cheaper.

Save the money and invest in better WiFi, more bars for half time or more safe standing. The important stuff

Torp is excellent for us but struggles with full 90 minutes. Having Onyeka would be capable of either complimenting Grimes or Torp if either had to go off or couldn't start on a rotation. He would be great for closing out games where we are winning.

This is from 23/24 in the Prem, compared to the rest of the midfielders in the league.

Interesting similar player mentioned too...

So you’re playing Grimes higher up the pitch?

I just think for the profile at this level it’s a lot of money.
