Its not just the £7m in a player to help us get over the line either, its a player that has played for a team that finished 9th in the PL too. Has bags of PL minutes under his belt, a full season in the bundesliga, and nearly a half century of intl caps to boot. All that, for just a fraction over what we sold the injury prone Sheaf for? Plus we all know the extra FL gets out of the midfielders. He could push Onyeka to the next level. It almost seems a no-brainer of a signing to me.

Agreed. If we can do this for £7 million it's a steal

This isn’t the window to buy for resale value, if this is the player we want then the £7m shouldn’t be a stumbling block. Thats basically what we got for Sheaf.

We’ve entered a new stage of squad building. Before, the priority was development players who will have 2-3 seasons to get us up to the Prem.

Now, we need players who can make an impact right now and thinking ahead, players who give us a chance of staying up next season.

King and Austin made it v clear that their only ‘model’ is improving the team.

Exactly. People fall for the bluster/cockiness of Blues fans online over and over. Most of their signings end up being warm diarrhea.

West Ham. I was at Upton Park in the League Cup SF in 1981, a night that many others have mentioned over the years. Vile, nasty people. I went again 1st game of the 86/7 season and it was equally intimidating.

All the media love them with their countless celebrity fans but never a mention of how many thugs follow them. Almost feel sorry for Millwall and the reputation they have when West Ham are worse.

Hope to give you an insight on Frank Onyeka.
He gives 100% and will cover every blade of grass, and is particularly useful at playing a gritty game.
However, on the ball he is genuinely woeful, he has a first touch of a trampoline and absolutely no passing ability. Brentford very rarely get them wrong but we got this one quite wrong. With Grimes already in the midfield, Onyeka wont offer much else.
I try to watch your games on the telly but it is fairly hard now-a-days with our away games and trains being fucked afterwards. however what I have seen is you probably needed a 3 players to secure promotion: a winger (Esse seems to be the solution), a left back (Brau may come good later in his career), and a midfielder alongside Grimes., and perhaps even a striker (although wright may turn consistent and score enough towards the end of the term.) You need someone to drive the ball and have the ability to breach defence with quick passes. Onyeka is not that player, especially not for 8m.

good luck cov, on promotion.

We actually are missing that gritty side to our game, particularly in CM.

Yeh i echo the above. As much as we'd love to unearth the next coming of Zidane, someone coming and and being able to dig in and do the gritty side of the game well could be a useful addition for us atm. Especially in away games.

From what I hear he is good in a high press, and thats where we were at our best.

I wonder with BTA back whether someone like Onyeka will help put teams on the back foot and make us be less passive.

Yes, he is good at that.. However, being caught out of position is unfortunately common

Its a tough position we are in. For me, if we spent £7m on Onyeka and we got promoted it would be a drop in the ocean, but its whether the owner wants to take that risk.

Out of position is something we are used to recently with our players!

Any concerns with his passing / positioning don't matter so much this season, but his pressing and engine would add exactly what we need to get us over the line. Then at that point, it's small money and at worst would be able to get that money back. Loan to buy if promoted is perfect sense for us, it's whether that works for Brentford.

Tbf its all about the here and now of getting out of The Championship. He probably wouldn't get caught out as much at this level in all honesty and if he helped us get up then its worth it.
First touch of a trampoline might be useful anyway, him and Simms could do quick one-twos thirty yards from each other.

Fast, energetic uncompromising and powerful who can tackle is what we need mainly for away games or to see out a game once we have the lead.

Are you hearing anything from your side of where he is likely to end up this month ? I know our name has been mentioned, but he seems to have been linked with some fairly big names on the continent and seeing the business Fiorentina are doing in targeting current prem players, it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up there.

Andrews was asked about it an a press conference and virtually said 'the door is open'

I can definitely see him going to the championship for half season before coming back to the prem, with us or coventry.

I think with the potential of Europe, its natural to upgrade on players and Onyeka is one that falls into that category.

from what I've heard is he is open to the move as he wants to play football more.

Do you think there's any chance of him becoming a regular for you again?

If not, seems like a permanent sale would suit better and not sure we'll sanction that now.

If Birmingham are in and to be clear i'm still not fully convinced they are, at some point Doug just has to match the offer given the position we are in and what it would mean. If they think this is the man to help push us over the line then do it. All things being equal there is no way the player chooses Blues over us as things stand.

I struggle to believe that any player like to start for either team would opt for Birmingham over us. We’re odds on to go up and Birmingham will almost definitely be in the championship next season.

Wages will be the problem, is Doug prepared to make him our top earner by some margin on a 3/4 year contract? Doubt it.

I think he'd be a good signing, but don't think we should be breaking our transfer record and wage structure to get him in

Loan with or without obligation would be decent.

Who is worth it?

A Premier League player who fills the void we have in the squad seems the opportune time.

Should we go up the wage structure would be increased anyway

I'd imagine nearly all of our players will either have clauses or will just negotiate new contracts if we were to get promoted.

Yes, we need legs, strength and physicality in midfield and someone who can get our press going again.

We have become too passive.
