did we acctuly chance the formation i thought we weren't playing the diamond and were changing to plan B it looked like we were playing diamond were we?

It was definitely fergie style mind games. That was the diamond for the whole 90 mins. Sheff playing at the tip behind platt and juke bigi left Thomas right and sammy at the base.

It was the diamond but with McSheffrey playing it as he did last season rather than how he has this year thus far. Instead of sticking to the central area, he worked either flank and made forward runs so that he was really like a 3rd striker most of the time. Equally Sammy was more advanced than usual in the diamond. It was somewhere between the diamond and 443..a "diamond +1", if you will, in that the base and hole role were shifted one-up the pitch. It worked.

I'd call it the diamond with dynamism. Sheff worked the right areas and sammy started to step up into more advanced areas, which then pushed the hole midfield up, and when sammy went forward bigi or Thomas would cover him.
