Word reaches me the Ricoh's bidding for an American Football franchise.

Think I'm joking? Consider this

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/29391069

But then consider the reasons why Haskell was over. His family's (former?) involvement with the Jacksonville Jaguars is the link, they'd come over. Also bear in mind all this talk people have banged on about Tata's research facility coming to Warwick University, and Jaguar land Rover's involvement in any deal.

It's set up beautifully, and cheaper than Wembley.

They also see a chance to take over the football club. They're keeping an eye on how the Hull Tigers rebrand fallout goes, as they really want a suite of franchises, and us rebranded as Coventry Jaguars too. It'd help on economies of scale with merchandise, printing of tickets, stadium layout and general brand identity. They see it as helping sponsorship too as the corporate pull of soccer and American Football will appeal to plenty of companies who'd never look at us before. Personally I can see how if it goes well it might offer a way out for the ice hockey and Speedway teams too, as they see it as an opportunity for a massive, massive organisation all under the one identity.

Suddenly Rugby looks small-fry eh? When we can have our games beamed into the US through the American Football link it'll boost our presence, boost our merchandising across the globe.

I'd love an American Football team here. Be first in line for a season ticket. I absolutely adore the game.

That's the fantasy in my head talking though rather than the practicality of having a team here and how it impinges on everything etc. That's me talking in terms of ideal dreams only.

Reality is of course that no way an NFL team would ever move here anyway.

3 NFL teams with stadiums with 80,000+ capacities, 12 with 70,000+ capacities and 14 with 60,000+ capacities and 2 with 50,000+ capacities.

No way an NFL team would come over to the Ricoh to play in front of 32,000 paying customers.

Reached play offs. A good season but the squad struggled due to no shows at crucial games.

CU Jets had 432 students turn up for training/try outs at todays Freshers week event!

I like the title but then again Rugby was never on my radar I cannot think of a sport I hate more then Rugby if it is on TV I would rather switch it off than watch it.

There will be an NFL franchise but it will be in London and if not an expansion team then it will be the Jacksonville Jaguars and sponsored by?

hats off to ACL for been ambitious but they are fighting well out of their league if they do try it. any english NFL team would be london based at most likely spurs new ground as they have been building up their relationship with the nfl for a few years. i love the sport but i dont want a british team it wouldnt work it sure as hell wouldnt work if ACL were involved. at risk of getting abused by everyone else on here otis which team do you follow?

Washington Redskins.

Flatter to deceive for the most part. Stayed up til the early hours Friday morning to watch them play the NY Giants with great hope and they got totally slaughtered. :(

Rugby Union is one of the most boring sports in the World.

American Football is Rugby Union with all the exciting bits taken out.

Each and every to their own, but I would say that American Football is at least 10 times more exciting than football.

How many exciting games of football do we get a season watching the City? 4? 5? Less? I would say about 60-70% of American Football games are very exciting. I love the game so much more than football. It's right at the top of the list of sports for me.

Coventry City will always come first, but after them and England, it's Gridiron all the way.

I do like to watch/play american football, I just hate all the breaks.

I must admit I would love to go to a game in America. Completely different ball game (pun intended) over there! It is a full on liver killing event!

I booked to go to a game in the US a few years back, but the travel firm went bust, so I lost all my money. Been 2 two Wembley games though and they were great.

The other thing that fascinates me is college football. It is MASSIVE out there.

Me and a mate used to go and see the London Monarchs quite regularly.

I was a Houston Oilers man myself.

Been said by Fisher loads of times the Ricoh needs to be working lots more than 23 league matches a year plus cup-ties, one thing I can't fall out with him about. If it was sisu acquiring a controlling interest , this Haskell bloke, the wasps supremo, uncle Tom Cobberly and more other sports will certainly happen whether it is RU, Rugby League, American football or all three. Those who don't like, well, just don't go !!

Dont follow it at all but i agree there will be a growing presence in the UK very shortly given the increase of games over here. The major factor is around TV deals i guess as it would be more about who watches it on the box more than how many people sit in the stadium. It would be interesting to see if there is a constant mad rush for tickets like there is currently for these games if there was 15-20 games a season over here?

The Arena is being used for other things through the week what Fisher really wants is a piece of that income but without wanting to give anything back like paying for a part of it.

Time will tell.

Research shows 2.8m people in UK consider themselves "very interested" in the NFL

40,000 people (16yrs+) play in England once a month - double the number four years ago

Four million watched the Super Bowl

amoungst the city fanbase there seems to be a decent following for the nfl see alot of nfl hats and coats come the winter. was a wembley yesterday i seriously cant see how the ricoh would pull and event like that off there isnt enough space, parking or public transport to support an internation NFL game

Of course not. The ground would have to have twice the capacity. Think NW was just making a point.
