Football nets (4 Viewers)

Very off topic... But why do all grounds have the boxed football goal nets now? Unlike the angled ones we used to see at Highfield road or the ones at Goodison?

Any sensible answer welcome

It was a European thing and I think British clubs just copied it? Not sure there's actually any specific reason?

Boxed nets more eco- friendly. Angled nets used by norweigan whalers and banned by fishing federatuon in 2009.

One of my fab topics this I hate box nets as the ball never stays in the net!

2 reasons.

1 they don't need a stanchion, so avoids Clive Allen goal probs.

2 they are a lot easier to put up and down.

Complete guess, but is there less chance of the ball bouncing off the bit behind the posts that held the net out a little? Thus reducing the risk of hitting and coming back out and a goal being missed by the linesman?

I used to remember grounds based on their nets. Remember Ipswichs net? and Crystal Palaces/Wimblesdons pentagon type. They were great nets!

Wembley were the best, with camera's in the goal too!
