Following on from the all-time fav thread who was your first Coventry hero, and why?

Mine was Terry Gibson. Scored goals for fun in a struggling side including a penalty in my first ever game in 1984.

I was the only Terry Gibson among a sea of Ian Rush's in the playground of St Johns primary in Weymouth during our lunchtime kick abouts. All the p*ss taking stopped for one week commencing 12th December 1983. Ah, the memories...

Kevin Gallacher was my first hero used to give him man of the match everygame on the back of my program,

followed by Peter Ndlovu amazing skills brilliant player on his day, was gutted when we sold him.

Really feel sorry for the kids of today as who would be the hero David Bell or Carl baker? Just not the same

Tommy Hutch. I first really started getting into the City in '75 when I was ten although I'd been going since I was six. Tommy Hutch was the first player who really gave me a feeling of excitement while at HR. Every time he got the ball you knew he could do something special with it. It was a great back then. My favourite period as a supporter was from 75 - 78.

At least you guys have one, im 17 and have been supporting city since I can remember (about 12 years) and have none. Not one.
You wonder why our attendances are dwindling and we can't get new younger supporters.

First one was probably Ernie Hunt. Don't remember too much at all about Ian Gibson. Can only remember going to one game where the fans were chanting for him to be brought on.

Ernie Hunt could be a genius on the ball at times and was a big favourite of the city faithful, so I reckon it is him for me. First ever City hero. Bill Glazier came a very close second though. What a fantastic player. Best keeper we have ever had.

Yes Ernie was a real showman, great player. he came after Gibbo. I agree Glazier by far the best keeper we ever had.

Later on when I began my amatuer football career it became Bill Glazier
As I stated on a previous post .... Bill had fly paper hands .
The amount of crosses he took cleanly under pressure was very impressive .

Tommy Hutch was also a special player .
I used to see him regularly in The Tollgate and he always had time for you .

I always liked Dion Dublin and Oggy in the Nineties teams

First game October 20th 1986 against Wimbledon: Dave Bennett scored our goal in a 1-0 win. He and Gynn were the most exciting players over the season for me, so one of those two. Obviously, Keith Houchen came more to the fore over that season...

I think for a lot of people it will coincide with the era they started going to games, my first game was in '75 and my first hero was Tommy Hutchison.

First player I ever really thought "Waah awesome!" was Magnus Hedman, because I always liked being a GK when I was younger. Shame he went down the pan and lost all his money and hot wife. On the plus side I am a lot younger than some here, sorry for the meh player!

Have to say my "hero" (hate using that word out of military context!) was Bill Glazier. Went for everything. Not frightened of getting hurt. Commanded his area. Best goalie city ever had bar none! Even Oggy should bow down before him!

bobby mcdonald, lived round the corner from me at the time, we knocked on his door one saturday night without notice,to present some awards for our sunday league team, he came no problem! that was my first era late seventies

I was always a big fan of Dion. He was out talismanic striker at the time I was a very young kid, just starting to understand football and support the club. It was only natural I guess given that he was our best goalscorer at the time, and that's the glamour position of the game. As the seasons passed I developed more of an eye for the game, and after Dion left, I became a huge fan of McAllister. His play-making has surpassed just about everything I personally have seen at the club.

Skybluejelly, so glad you mentioned Bobby McDonald. He rarely gets a mention yet he was a rock solid full back for so long. Perhaps something about the team he came from stays in people's minds? Terrific player.
My own first favourites would have to be a bandy legged winger called Stewart Imlach. in about 1960. Followed by a little right winger Willy Humphries from 1962-65. Still have the little sky blue star badge with him on it, in a box somewhere.
George Curtis without a doubt. Gibbo (the first one) Ronnie Rees. Bobby Gould (never seen a player give so much), Hutchy. Ernie Hunt (he's here, he's there, he's every....). Nowadays...hmmmm. ah well.
