Love him or hate him......... if you like football, then you've simply got to admire the man & respect his achievements.

Best British manager EVER.....undisputed. FACT.

Good luck Fergie....& good riddance.:D

Like him or not, he's done a lot for the sport and the Premier league. All the best Sir Alex.

It's been said before, but I'm guess José Mourinho for the job.

Whoever takes over is going to feel enormous expectation to carry on the good work-not sure if Moyes is that man.

Leave the nostalgia folks, he's always been a complete cock. Decent manager yes, but they do have the pick of the talent with all te plastic mancs around the country. Glad he's finished, only Leeds and the scousers annoy me more (and that included Vile and Incester).

If you look at the most successful managers in world football over many years, there are very few who are followed by an equal.
Off the top of my head Bill Shankley to Bob Paisley still produced many trophies for Liverpool but can't think of anymore.

Would have thought it would be Mourinho or Moyes.

none of those mentioned were in the class of Brian Clough

Took a poor championship club to double European Champions

It would be like somebody taking over at Ipswich now - and within 3-4 years winning the premiership, and the champions league twice (that was whan you had to be champions to enter it)

I've heard Thorn's odds have dramatically shortened.

Someone just put a large sum on him at William Hill's.

That's me wrong then. I didn't think the rumors were true. I think the hip surgery has a lot to do with it. He wouldn't want to leave united in the pig sh*t like that. Love him or hate him, you have to respect him as manager. Certainly the greatest thing to ever come out of scotland

Can't stand the bloke. Great manager, indeed. But like Rob said, an absolute cock of a man!

The stage is set for a former club great to return to his stomping ground and continue his meteoric rise.

They've had it lined up a while by the sounds of it, which leans towards Moyes or Mourinho as they're approaching the end of their contracts.

It could be a wily choice as Ferguson endorsed our own gruff Scot not too long back, but my money's on Steve Kean.

If Moyes gets the job I reckon we will be playing them in two years

First Thatcher dies, then Ferguson retires. Somewhere there is a Scouser with a lamp and one wish left.

Why all the negative comments about Moyes? He has proven he is a very good manager with little budget to work with at Everton. He deserves a chance at one of the worlds elite clubs.

I'd be worried if I were Kelvin MacKenzie today then!
