Is this our best transfer window (on paper) ever?
I think things will take time to gel but I am more confident of promotion THIS season than I was going into last season in div 4. Anyone else feel like that? Mark Robins has worked absolute wonders bolstering all areas of the squad. Young bright talents and with so many capable players in this division, combined with our own young players plus likes of Alassani Sterling Mason we have the potential to be one of the most exciting Coventry teams in a long time. I cannot wait for tomorrow although I do think we won’t see our best 11 at full flow until nearer October. Drag everyone you know along tomorrow get them hooked again on another year of exciting football at the Ricoh x
Two things stand out for me.
The first is our squad compared to the one that got relegated. - A million times better.
The second is the fact despite getting promoted we have strengthened the squad very well.
Many teams get promoted and just rest on their laurels, but we haven't done that. Apart from losing McNulty from the squad, our midfield and defence is now considerably stronger (including Jones and Andreu back). The striker situation is sorting itself out and it looks like we have another one to come in. Add Chaplin (or another) and Larsen to the squad and it looks pretty incredible to be honest.
I think we can challenge top 10, and without putting too much pressure on ourselves, arguably higher than that.
You are far too positive, you need to calm down a bit. It's ridiculous.
Unless we get off to a good start, half of our signings will be written off as shit within the first 45 mins against Scunny.
Apologies. If it is a problem we can always try to get Slade back if you prefer?
P.S. always puzzled by those who say they have "faith" in MR. You can really only have "faith" in a deity whereas M R had failed at his two previous positions. Like a life in politics, all managerial careers end in failure
He has done a good but not faultless job here - it should not have needed the play offs; some necessary changes were flagged up on here long before M R actually did them - playing two defensive midfielders for instance. It is possible even probable that M R is a good, competent L1 and L2 manager, and maybe that is enough for us.
My other random thought is that possibly M R knows that some of these signings will not work, given the number some are bound not too - like Vincenti, but by putting enough new faces in he has covered against the statistical certainty that some will fail.
No they weren't. The key was to play Kelly far more forward than initially was the case imho. Look at the McNulty goal against Notts County - the key was Kelly's engine - which must be amazing - because he covers the length of the pitch and then loops round behind Bayliss while TB holds the ball. Then delivers a tap in for McNulty.Erm, the two defensive midfielders were key to us winning in the play offs. They were a red herring as to some of our spells of poor form.

Let's do it. Who's going to suck the grease out of his hat though?
Fair point, but how often have we come out and said that we're targetting promotion? Adi Boothroyd was the last manager I can think of, and for a spell he got us close before the wheels fell off. I doubt the club / manager / players would be saying that is the aim if they didn't feel we had the quality to be there or thereabouts. And even if we finish, say, 14th, it'll be progress.I'm not as convinced. There's some good squads in this division, and whilst I think we've a chance of a play off push, so will pretty much every other team. We're a great deal better than when we went down, however we had some good sides in the years before that and didn't get that close.
