Or been told something behind the scenes, i.e we won't attempt a play off charge?

We've lost several CB's at times and Godden post Xmas, is it bad luck or were we happy with a post Xmas slump after we were effectively safe from new year onwards?

Something just seems off the last few games, not our usual selves but then pop up with occasional last minute results.

Just to add, I thought we'd get hammered today, but Forest offered very little considering they were at home and in top form.

We let them take that game, n the few "chances" we had never looked like going in, whereas they took theirs.

It is exactly how it looks .

We're a good footballing side that lacks the quality and killer instinct where it matters .. we've outplayed many sides in various matches , matched alot of good teams and not got our rewards because its where we are as a squad .

It's been a very enjoyable season , and yet a frustrating one too at times

Fallen short as we spunked what little money we had on a LWB who isn’t very good at LWB , who turns out isn’t to bad playing CB, when we have an attacking midfielder who is shit at being an attacking midfielder but isn’t to bad as a back up option at LWB, when we should of gone out and got atleast one attacking midfielder in who can actually put the ball in the back of the net and not hit it straight at the keeper or 10ft over the bloody cross bar!

Been a good season but we won't push on from being a mid-table unless there is investment in the team or we fluke a good season

Unfortunately I think it was always going to tail off. We are a high energy team with a small squad. I am not surprised we have burnt out a bit. Adding to the toll on the players is the deteriorating pitches. The pitch looked good tonight but some of the games at CBS have looked heavy. With injuries we have had to resort to overplaying players and playing people out of position.

We have played well against most teams but obviously need better players defensively and forwards, certainly not enough goals coming from midfield, we hardly ever look like scoring and another striker to go with Gyo & Godden.
Clever work in transfer loan markets can mean we carry on the good work from this season.

We've hit our ceiling under the current owners lets be honest.

It goes one of two ways now. We fluke a season and get premier league and all our financial problems are over, leading to new owners etc.

Or we flog the crown jewels and do a Barnsley

Not convinced it has to be such an extreme outcome either way. We could just as easily consolidate around a couple of key players and be Preston for the next few years (be still my beating heart)

We’re not far off. We need 2 or 3 good signings and we will be a top side. Just a couple of average players in key positions.

i don't think we've fallen short - we are where we deserve to be,,,,over-achieved early season.....possibly under achieved slightly late season, I would have taken where we finish this season before season kicked off mid-table solidity is not bad at all.

I am also not convinced we were "close" to going up barring signing one ACM which seems the myopic/sky blue blinkered view by quite a few?

We are a few players short of a top six side we probably need a few more seasons of consolidation and a bit of luck also to have a hit at promotion. But all in all feel we've done really well and the season has been a very entertaining one!

Spot on. We have improved on last season which is what we all hoped for. We are , I think, two seasons way from a serious assault on promotion. All we can hope for is improving year on year . To be where we are given the lack of investment is extraordinary.

Has the "fluke a good season" not been this one?

As others have said, it's been a poor season by many teams, so opportunity to seize a play off place was there imo. Just a few players short in January.

Least we have one of the least amount of players used trophy though 🙌👌

A couple of decent attacking midfielders who contribute goals could have made a huge difference this season.

I’m in the pessimistic camp and can’t help but see the squad being raided in the summer and a massive rebuilding job taking place. To go for promotion from this division, you have to keep hold of your best players and add to it. Unfortunately we’re not in a position to do so and could so easily end up as next seasons Barnsley.

We have a big enough squad of players in numbers but not in quality, the opposing teams seem to be able to bring better quality off the bench. Plus a couple of injuries and we are scratching around for players.

Lack of investment in Jan is what has really killed us off I think, especially when pretty much the majority of those around us strengthened, and strengthened well for that matter.

Still a really positive season on the whole.
SISU being the cheapskates that they are is what’s cost a potential playoff berth for this team. No 2 ways about it. Robins said as much by saying how their squad was so deep and full of quality while ours struggles mightily in the final third. Seems like we need 3 times as many chances as other teams just to get the ball in the back of the net which is frustrating. Forest are a good team, but I thought we held our own and outplayed them for large parts until their first goal went in.

Its a fair question but I do genuinely think we have done well this season. We've fallen short due to lack of depth and a couple of quality players

We needed to sign more in January and we didn't

I personally see at least one of Hamer/OHare/Gyo leaving so we need to reinvest that into 3x quality players and use the loan market more

We are where we are the table does not lie. We have had numerous clear cut chances to win games and missed them and gone on to lose. We are doing well for the budget, not all signings are going to come off and with our limited budget we are short of a play off place. We do need some quality to make us stronger but Im sure Robins will make it clear to the owners that we have come as far as we can expect so put up some money or expect it to remain a team going nowhere but down again.
Very frustrating but it has been an exciting season and an achievement compared to all the other budgets.

We only need “two or three” additions, assuming we keep all our best players. We won’t.

Don't want to sound like a pessimist but Sisu didn't take a punt and invest in January when we were really well positioned for a push for at the least top six and that for me shows their intentions, so I'm not expecting them to change their stance come the summer.
I think we all agree that we are lacking that bit of quality to take us to the next level and it will be down to Robins again to try and make some astute signings yet balance the books and I wouldn't be surprised if his head gets turned eventually by a club with true aspirations.
Sorry that all sounds like doom and gloom, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the lads this season but at the same time have been left feeling frustrated by being so close to having a solid side with the true ability to make a challenge.

Weren't we reportedly interested in Cameron Archer?
Paper talk and he hasn’t set the world alight. The reality was that we chose to extend Allen’s contract as he is an understudy to Ohare. Very unlikely a player would come in who could make a difference to our season happy to sit on the bench

Hasn't set the world alight? He's scored 6 in 14 since arriving in January... That's nearly a one in two record.

Have have a core squad of 15 players who have played more than 1k minutes this season (in order):

Moore
O’Hare
Hyam
Györkeres
McFadz
Maatsen
Hamer
Sheaf
JCS
Dabo
Allen
Kane
Rose
Godden
Waghorn

Add in Bidwell so 16 total.

From that I’d argue maybe 6/7 are top half championship quality, another 3/4 are bottom half and another 4/5 aren’t up to standard.

Categorise for them, I'm interested to know the 4/5

I'd give Robins two more years but also a budget that at least matches the teams mid table in terms of spending budget. I don't think that will happen and I think if that's the case Robins will leave by the end of that period. If he's got us finishing mid table to top half then that in itself is an achievement if the current level of spending isn't increased.

Agree and during that 2 years we need to mentor his replacement
