Yes and in that hour he has scored a cracking goal and played a part in another. It's amazing how some people form views on certain players.

Thought he spoke well in the interview. I think there is definitely a player in there so hopefully he can step up again this season.

Not sure what’s to be unhappy about, young prospect secured on a contract, club want him and rate him.

Thats good news as far as I’m concerned.

People keep saying we need pace, here it is already in the club. Got to be a good signing and he's probably on league 1 money at best.

I hope we have signed him to a new contract with the view to send him out on loan to get some much needed first team minutes but also protecting our assets so he doesn’t go and do great somewhere and then leave.
3 years I think is a bit hasty, I would have preferred 2 years personally as he is still very much unknown, he’s 22 now so he really needs to kick on. A minimum of 6 months out on loan and start the season with Walker & Waghorn who are much more experienced for back up and then if he does well then we can bring him back into the fold and loan one of the others out for their final 6 months of their contract if they aren’t happy not playing. By next year then we will have Walker & Waghorn at the end of their contracts and he can come back into the fold providing he earnt his stripes out on loan and comes back a man.

It is the type of Britain we live in today when people gloat at another's downfall and smirk when things don't go other's way. Call it spiteful or callous, but that is the powers on technology where fakeism flourishes.
In my world (intrinsic) all people have a chance to shine, are given respect and encouraged to do their best. Whom so ever plays for CCFC will always have my undivided loyalty, and if or when they move on to pastures green they do so with my love, thanks and best wises. It's called being a human.

Tavares will not go out on loan this season, MR see's him as a big part of the first team this campaign and rightly so, much to the dismay of a few on here.

I think he is ahead of Walker and Waghorn in the pecking order, purely based on his performances this pre season and the fact that the team seem to trust him to do his thing and actively look to give him the ball and let him run

Based on the fact Walker & Waghorn started today I'm not sure that's true. I'd keep him around if he's going to get game time, if not send on loan. He needs to play.

It’s preseason though and it’s only against L2 opposition I wouldnt read too much into that. He will get game time

Let’s not forget apart from Tavares we have Will Bapaga too another with bags of pace and can run like wind with the ball at his feet I have high hopes of him, we have some decent prospects coming through.

I think it is clear Waghorn and Walker pre season need to try and stake a claim for a shirt.

Tavares is still pushing for the bench as an impact player. With a target of perhaps starting games second half of the season.

I wouldn't read too much into who starts in friendlies or even formations.

Waghorns experience from the start or off bench should not be underestimated. Walker needs to show a bit more desire and confidence. Tavares perhaps a bit more strength and composure.

The coaches will be watching closely. And clubs showing interest in loans might shape things too.

Not sure he’s ahead of Waghorn and Walker, rightly or wrongly.

However, I would certainly back him as more an impact sub than both of them.

He has pace and his instinct is to run behind - that’s different to our other four strikers. Let’s just hope this year he’s picked out when he does it. It was very frustrating last year when we often failed to utilise his running when he came on.

Not saying he’s the messiah but he offers something unique, he’s clearly keen and he’s done himself no harm in his cameos thus far.

If we don’t offload Walker or Waghorn I can’t see how we keep them all happy.

Also, with increased number of subs we are more likely to keep players on the fringes around.

There aren't many attributes in footballers quite like raw pace for being able to change the way defenders defend, just with the knowledge it's there. It's also quite rare to find genuinely rapid players with composed finishing. It's a dangerous combination and allows you to influence games even when the other aspects of your game are still developing. The areas of his game that still need working on, by their nature, can be done just as easily in training as matches. I'd be very surprised if he's loaned out, he's unique in our squad.

send Walker out on loan again, Waghorn drop at the nearest tip, we will be lucky if he doubles his tally from last season, although on the back end of the C.OH thread on the Sunderland board, they are debating Waghorn , we can hope

The odd thing is that the English language has never had a word that covers the emotion of enjoying seeing someone fail or their down fall so we have to use a German word instead and it’s a personal fave of mine…”schadenfreude”.

Every days a school day people!!

I think you're really underplaying how much the coaching team rely on football forums and fans opinion. I've heard Guardiola listens to the talk sport phone in's everyday, even before coming to England!

Unfortunately, every time I see the name Waghorn I am never expecting 'goal' to be anywhere near it.

Waghorn goes close
Good effort, but goes wide
Keeper saves it
A little boy in row 7 caught the shot

I think we will be better off if we can move both Waghorn and Walker on, as was going to be the case (allegedly).

From the limited bits I've seen of preseason, he sure looks very confident. Good look to the lad, he's improving all the time.

He looks to have all the attributes, just needs to bulk up a little and he’ll be ready for the Championship

Robins seems to rate him and I expect he's looking to offload one of Walker/Waghorn to free some room in the budget and have Tavares as 4th striker.

Funny how some people expect a player of his age to be a goalscorer, good in the air pacy, and strong. He isn't likely to be used as one up front so I don't think he needs to bulk up. We just need to utilise his strengths - pace, quick feet, looking to get in behind, and a finisher. He also works hard and will track back. Ideal to have to come off the bench. There have been plenty of top players who were whippet like and could score goals. Michael Owen was never gonna bully the defenders or dominate in the air.
