Expectations next season (5 Viewers)

Do people realistically think we're that good that we should be in the top 2 next season? I can't see that personally I'm afraid
That's a tough ask, top 2 would be a fantastic achievement, we'd have to eliminate all the mistakes (at both ends to be close to this).

All 3 relegated clubs in will be there or there abouts next season add to the one or Sunderland or Sheffield United. The will be a few in the pack like Bristol, Middlesbrough, Norwich who will surely want to improve next season, and potential that one of the promoted teams might push on this season. It may be a tougher league next season. I don't think you can blame injuries, etc, every team has injuries.

We have to pushing for play offs next season. And ideally sealing them a couple of games before the end of the season.

I can't see top 2, the relegated clubs have too much financial clout. You can point to Luton but that's almost a freak event.

So who will be the top 2 if it is not us?...I think it will be a harder season with at least 10 seriously top teams fighting for the top 6 , we must start getting points early in in the compain to keep in the running.

I just want us to start the season looking fit and sharp and ready for the challenge.
That would be a refreshing change!

And that means Exeter away is NOT a suitable fixture as our last pre-season friendly.

Makes zero sense. So do you think the winner of Charlton Orient should just give up as they aren’t trying to win the league

They aren’t at the start of the season.

You should enter every single competition with the aim to win it

Improve on our points tally from 22/23 and last season and concede a lot less than last season.

Both from better results away. Don't think we can do more at home vs. our haul from Nov onwards.

Should be the min. expected of Lampard and the squad unless there's a weird mutiny or fire sale.

Exeter's hardly halfway across the equator so I think they'd be OK

I just want one season - one! - where we actually come out of the traps looking like we know what the plan is for the first 10-15 games. I’m not saying we need to win every game, but let’s just play at a consistent level and get in the top 6 without having to go on some insane run around January again.
Exactly this. None of this starting the season after giving everyone else a 10 game head start.

Probably a good season to have a chance at the Autos but really top 6 is the aim.

Leicester have a massive rebuild ahead and still not a lot of money.

Southampton are a poor team, and anybody half decent will be off.

Ipswich will go up as champions for me, recruited quite well but just never sorted out their defence.

So Ipswich will have first dibs at defenders?

Am I correct in thinking that if Sheff U win the playoffs, next season the only teams receiving parachute payments will be the relegated teams this year?
This year it's Leicester, Ipswich, Southampton
Last year 23/24 it was Luton, Burnley, Sheff U
The previous year 22/23 it was Leicester, Leeds, Southampton
That may help us.

Now the dust has settled on the season and thinking about next seasons aspirations I think winning the league is a realistic aim even if we signed nobody and let nobody go, which obviously won't happen but as I've no idea who will be going or coming in I am just basing this on the current squad.
Neither Robins or Lampard at any point all season had a fully fit or close to fully fit squad to choose from, all season the first team largely picked itsf due to injuries. From memory only MVE and Collins of the entire squad didn't have significant periods out with injury, perhaps Kitching as well. Grimes only had half a season with us.
I don't think any other club had as many injuries we did. Yet we finished 5th and this calendar year I think we're 3rd in the form table.
The 3 who are coming down do not look as strong as Burnley and Sheff Utd. Leicester I think will struggle due to the off field issues. Southampton don't look much. Ipswich should be challenging though.
Looking at the league for next season assuming Sheff Utd go up I don't see any side significantly better than us. Our coaching set up looks top draw and dare I say PL ready.
While we have made stupid errors all season defensively, the 4 CBs are very young and we're brought in to develop and Kitching and Thomas have significantly improved. It is unlikely we will be so naive defensively next season as the CBs will be more streetwise as they are maturing.
It's the most optimistic I've been about a new season since the year after we won the Cup. As a fanbase we have grown accustomed to looking at things glass half empty but I just genuinely feel the upward trajectory of the club incrementally is moving towards inevitable promotion in a similar way to Brentford.
Whether Wright Simms and MVE want to stay is for me questionable so if they go we need to get it right replacing them. If Sheaf goes personally I'm more than happy with Eccles playing with Grimes. I don't think we need a massive turnover this summer, so might be a bit of a boring summer in that regard for those who like transfer news and gossip.

I think that’s the other thing as well. Let’s see how recruitment goes incoming's and outgoings as that’s going to dictate our expectations.

It’s very hard to say atm.

I think there are two expectations this coming season…..

1) finish the season in a play off position
2) be consistently, from the start all the way through to the end of the season be in a play off position

Maybe number two is the real sign of progress been made.

Unrealistic to expect to be in the top 2. We would need around another 30 points to get automatics. Should be in and around the play offs again depending who we buy and sell.

We’d been in the playoffs for 9 of the previous 10 match days. Teams were scrapping to finish above us and in reality, a draw would’ve seen us finish 6th on the final day. That isn’t scrapping playoffs.

In 22/23, we went up into 5th on match day 45 and secured it on the final day. That was sneaking in and scrapping the playoffs.

I don't think teams get parachute payments until after the 1st season as the money they get for being in the PL is deemed enough, I think Luton will get their 1st chunk, if they still qualify in L1, bat the end of this season.

I’m expecting an exciting summer of some top quality signings coming in and a full pre season with Frank. We got to 5th with this squad and Grimes in Jan. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to be gunning for auto ambition.

Teams just mortgage it and use it in advance!

Teams coming down I don't think will be as strong as last season. Saints will have to turn around a miserable season.
Unfortunately, Brum and Wrexham are likely to be stronger than those that came up last season. I think the likes of Norwich and Watford will be better.
All that said, I think playoffs again, hopefully with a few games to spare.

You are deluded my friend.
With parachute payments still in play it is not a level playing field and we cannot compete financially with the teams coming down.
There are exceptions of course and I hope I'm wrong, but in the end money talks.

Aim has got to be best of the rest, so 4th (5th if Sheff U don’t go up)

Hopefully 1 or 2 of the parachute payment teams somehow mess it up and we could go a bit higher
