I don't think it's a coincidence that his 2 most prolific spells were when he was on loan and looking for a contract.

We’ve let a lot of players go over the years who have looked they had some potential and would make a go of it elsewhere who have just dropped down the leagues and out of the game.There are plenty of players that we don’t rate who have fell down the leagues.
