Luke Steele now playing for Notts County, after spending much of the last year playing as a striker for random amateur or semi pro clubs.

Talk me through how it works adge? Does he just have a memorable face? Does he have good games against other teams so the managers write him down?

just confused

Voted on by managers in the division isn't it? Not 100% but seem to remember that from league 2

Easy to dismiss the fans who see him every week rather than the L1 managers who have maybe seen him twice home and away. Lets not forget the expert football writers who’s opinion is based on an annual visit to the stadium of light once a year.

Doesn’t explain why Burge benefits does it? Why does Burge come off better under that analysis?

I’d have thought the recent spate of old threads being bumped would give you a little perspective on the average quality of fans opinions of players.

If it’s voted by the managers you could win with three votes.

I think that just confirms my long held view that the standard of goalkeeping in L1 and L2 is dire. Wilson is League 1 level and actually pretty good for League 2, so it is unfortunate for him that he has been so repeatedly sidelined.

I retain a soft spot for Burge purely because of the penalty he saved at Millwall, when the scores were level and we went on to win 4-1 - probably my best ever away day as I did not make it to Notts County

Fairly sure this is the one voted on by an independent panel/media.

There's far, far better goalkeepers in League 1 (Maxwell, Palmer, Pym etc.) but, at the time the votes were cast, I think back in February (which is mad considering how much of the season is still to go) Burge had most clean sheets in the league & a very high save % and Sunderland were absolutely flying so was an easy pick for some.

The thing we have to remember is that any decent keeper in the lower divisions will be snapped up pretty quickly by Championship or Premier League teams as their number 2 or 3
You see it all the time, they are then either loaned out or used in cup games to get big match experience
Reliable goalkeepers are as rare as hen's teeth
The other factor is how good the back line is in front of the keeper
If he has a settled and experienced defence to work with the keeper will look better

No, it was Nathan Trott of AFC Wimbledon. We only had one player in team of the season, and that was Liam Walsh.

Yeah, Maroši was definitely in the PFA one (plus Dabo, Walsh & Godden) & then there's the EFL one which I think is different again - not sure it even got awarded last year?

I think Trott is now number 2 or 3 at West Ham
He's on the bench every week together with David Martin, another keeper who spent all his previous career in the lower divisions

JCH scores a pen to send Peterborough back to the championship.

Hmm I wonder what kind of Ricoh reception he’ll get?
