Ex Player Reactions (14 Viewers)

Can anyone involved please explain to me why I should be booing Liam Walsh but applauding Kasey Palmer?

Same applies to Hamer and O’hare?

Only reason I can think of is that the people involved didn’t bother to watch the Birmingham season and have no idea what Walsh and O’hare achieved with us. Any of the main players in that season should always be appreciated. Our only league title win in decades and yet two of the stars are booed. I hope they know how much they are adored by those that attended.

Kasey Palmer achieved nothing with the club and actively pushed for a move. Same for Hamer. If they’d contributed to a league title win, I could understand the applause.

Can any of singers corner spell it out for me?

The O'Hare stuff was pantomime booing really. I would be very disappointed with it if it happens this season.

In regard to the applause for Palmer I think it was a reaction to a bit of initial booing by some of the crowd, as happened when Maddison came on for Spurs against us last season. If I remember right O'Hare was applauded (by some anyway) when he was substituted in our game last season, but if he gets booed by some of our crowd this season, then I hope it is drowned out by applause, as happened for by Palmer and Maddison. I don't want to see any ex player being applauded as they are about to take a corner or a free kick against us though!

As for the reasons why Palmer was applauded, as some have said it is likely to have much to do with the Sheffield Wednesday incident, although he was also quite approachable to fans when he was here. I'm sure I've also read about him leading the singing of WLADITT at the end of season awards, and PUSB at a London train station, so appealing to the tribal element of our support.

I don't see point in booing any ex player unless they left under bad circumstances

Walsh is one I was thinking of yesterday. He should be remembered as a league 1 hero. Why the fuck would anyone boo him?

I think it’s due to perceived loyalty, rather than what they achieved when playing for us. Loyal = Players who were sold. Disloyal = Players who rejected us in some way.

Walsh: POS. Then turned down the chance to join us.. (allegedly). Booooo!

O’Hare: Cult hero. Rejected a contract offer, and left on a free. Boooo!

Hamer: Cult hero. Sold. Made us £16m. 👏🏼

Palmer: Victim of racism. Sold. 👏🏼

Think this is basically it

Utterly bizarre and pretty disappointing that so many have forgotten where we came from and how we got back to challenging to get back in the Prem

100%, surely on the Palmer applause. I don't get the bafflement

We completely backed him when he got all that horrible racist abuse and I think that's the reason for the applause.

Put it another way, after receiving all that racial abuse, booing him would give off totally the wrong vibes

Bottom line is, he shouldn't have been booed or applauded

This is esentially it isnt it.

if we heard, for example, that rudi turned down our offer and went on a free, he would be booed, but if we got 30m would be clapped.
palmer: most didnt want to keep, and was sold almost randomly and we found out one morning.
Hyam apparently didnt even want to leave, so, he gets clapped.

from all of this we still have no real knowledge apart from apparent ITKs

What a load of nonsense. Walsh was a loan player and O’hare left as his contract was done. Both Palmer and Hamer forced moves late in the window and we were unable to replace either.

It’s far more likely that these fans have no idea of Walsh’s or O’hare’s contributions as they’ve only started supporting again since we got promoted. Same applies to a lot on here and they’re easy to spot (hatred of Godden, Dabo, Kelly etc).

Whilst i'd personally hesitate to boo any ex player (except Bellamy), iirc Palmer left us in the lurch (positionally) with his last minute transfer to hull, and no time to find a replacement (according to MR).
That said, we did get money for a massively inconsistent player on inflated wages, so it eventually worked out in our favour.

I don't think the Blades helped the animosity against O'Hare going, with their videos hinting at who was signing, with the Sunglasses which were related to when he was with us, and nothing to do with them.
The fact O'Hare took part in them grinning like the village idiot did him no favours.

Wasn’t Liam Walsh player of the season in the promotion year? A great player for us and never gave less than 100%. Why he should be the subject of booing I certainly don’t understand. I thought he was the best player on the pitch last night as he has been in the three previous appearances against us.
I would love him back here if he could stay injury free

Getting a fee for Palmer was a great piece of business. He did well to find someone to take him on at this level.

And his own video about the fruit in Spain etc although that shite and tge fake accent annoyed me about him whilst he was here too.

We boo a player who helped us to win a league title because he made a Tik Tok in Spain and talks funny (same fake accent as Rudoni). I’ve heard it all now

I don't know why people get excited by it. It's pure pantomime.

Your initial question was aimed at singer's corner and although this can be where most songs originate, trying to get any sense out of anyone during match-time seated there is like dipping your head in a bucket of water and singing yankie doodle dandy, meaningless and unaudible.

IIRC after his efforts for us in League 1, Walsh was recalled by Bristol City who took up an option to extend his contract. When they did end up releasing him. It was known that his partner was settled in Bristol and he didn’t want to move. Did we actually try to sign him again before he joined Swansea or was that just rumours?

A shame his career hasn’t panned out how he might have hoped. Injuries and manager changes seem to have taken their toll. Looked like a kid with a very bright future when he played for us.

Any applause for ex players should be left until the end of the game.
clapping Hamar when he was about to take a corner into our goalmouth was embarrassing. You might as well celebrate the goal he scored against us last season taking three points

I always think that recognising a player or manager should be before the game - not during or after it - give them a warm welcome, show our respect/appreciation…until kick off

The only exception for me - during a game - is when an opposition player has shown an outrageous piece of skill or scored an incredible goal - even though I’m annoyed that we’ve conceded - it’s appreciation and acknowledgement of the ‘beautiful game’.

A lot of people - me included - applauded THAT Hamer free kick last season. I wasn’t happy he’d scored, but the technique / execution was incredible.

Why the fuck would you applaud a goal,no matter how good, against us? Bizarre & weird
