Incredibly pissed off and dejected by that. Drawn with a bunch of plumbers and PE teachers. Too many players didn’t turn up tonight. Best part of Kane’s game is when he drops back and brings others into play but when they’re not at the races he needs to pick up on that, change tact and solve the lack of goal threat himself. Foden and Sterling both poor and looked like they’d never met before. Rice and Phillips did ok at resetting, starting again and pushing into the middle third. Best two players on the pitch for us was probably Mings and Pickford which is an embarrassment considering who we were playing.

Bunch of plumbers and PE teachers? I hate them but most of them play in the premier league. Why don’t you post this on the England forum instead of the cov one…..seeing as you support England more than your own club.

Got your priorities all wrong when it comes to football.

What he didn't do was get a chance until he'd built a reputation abroad - a spell as caretaker at Bristol City when they were a basket case was enought to write him off. On leaving Blackburn, he then needed to go away and rebuild, get that track record. To all intents, Hodgson is exactly the case of a 'foreign' manager being given more leeway, even if his passport says he's British.

We see it with Howe - failure at Burnley, some say. Well no, he was average at Burnley, what he does deserve is a chance somewhere else and, if that fails, he doesn't deserve to be written off for posterity.

That’s a fair point about Hodgson. Howe has already been offered higher profile jobs than the ones he’s had previously, and as I said, I imagine he’ll be highly tipped for the England job when it next comes up. I don’t think any one failure is the kiss of death for these guys.

France are doing this thing where they try and pass the ball into the opponent’s box and attempt to score a goal. Is this advisable?

Who is commentating this for BBC? Still can't get hardly any of the Hungarian names right
Another note it's boiling hot here (33 and heavy) today so players going to tire.

I’ve watched that incident back and really can’t understand why Szalai went off. What actually happened to him? He looked like he’d been hit on the head, but I can’t see anything.

Sitting here watching this pondering whether any England player would get in this France side? I don’t think they would. Quite hilarious we started the tournament as joint favourites with France with some bookies.

Edit: I may have Chilwell or Shaw over Digne. Other than that though…

Kane is better than benzema , much better goalscorer

And our right backs are better than Pavard , rabiot isn't great either .. is griezman that great ? Not sure myself

Ofcourse lol , but in terms of our players returns at club level , I'd take mbappe , varane , kimpembe , kante , pogba when he feels like it and that's it.. we would win it all then

I’d agree Kane is better than benzema ability-wise alright…. However performing in the pressure that Madrid brings is very different to performing for Spurs where the pressure is way way lower. Don’t think you can say who’s the bigger asset for a team until Kane tries his hand at a Madrid/ Man City/ Barca etc

Don't want France losing this - we might end up facing them in the next round, otherwise. Gulp !

England due to play there in the World Cup qualifiers. Will be feisty.

Benzema is massively underrated, held down a spot in that Madrid team for years and years. What a career.

It was a different era , with different defenders and midfielders.

Kane would do well there he's like benzema on crack when he's on form

They have to create the next big rivalry .

It's mbappe and Haaland going forward

Personally the lad plays in a wank league and will never fully show his worth in France

He is right though, its very different being at a club like Madrid with all the pressure that comes with it. Not sure how Kane plays in big games as well, Spurs don't get many, but he disappeared in that yawn of a champions league final.
He probably would do well at Madrid, maybe we'll find out next season, but don't write off what Benzema has done holding down a spot in that team.
