You clearly never went to the Dog & Trumpet on a Saturday night in the 90s and watched the 16/17 year olds leaping around like good uns. 16/17 year olds who would now be middle aged!

I saw them. I was 14.
I did and yes I am (although was a bit older than 16 in the 90’s). God that brings back some (vague) memories.

Used to got there as a 16 year myself in the 90s and enjoyed treating myself to a couple of bottles of Newcastle Brown in there on a Friday night.

Well i say enjoyed but it was horrible stuff. And i say treated, but it was all i could afford!

Then I'd be on trolley duty in Sainsbury's Trinity Street at 8am the next morning. That was an experience. They'd kick out all the nutters on weekend release from the old Cov and Warwick hospital on Stoney Stanton Road and the Sainsbury's would be the first place they'd arrive at as they wandered into town. Had one or two scary moments in that job!

Was the trolley bloke with the obviously false hand still there then?

Snakebite with double vodka and orange chasers for me 🤮 Johnny Cocaine (was a DJ for those unfamiliar) on a Friday night, soul and funk on a Saturday. Rose & Crown, Campbell, Browns (my god Mary is a - checks notes - strange lady).

Weirdly was the only time in my life I’ve ever drank Newcastle broon as well. Foul stuff.

Mary? Was that the woman on the door with the pineapple hairstyle?
If so she seemed to hate us!

A typical Saturday night for me back in the late 90s would consist of,in no particular order, either Browns,(complete with ol pineapple head herself),The Campbell,Scholars sometimes,The Colosseum,(Groovy Gardens nights were brilliant),The Elastic Inn,The Golden Cross....good times

Don't take it personally, she hated everyone.
Haha…yeah, that’s reassuring to know.

Even when they moved to the new site by the Herbert Art Gallery, and we were confident 20 somethings she’d turn us away…”let’s just go to the Dive Bar”.

Yeah I think that attitude of turning folk away with no explanation was eventually their undoing.
I think they turned some squadies away who had been remembering a fallen soldier and it made the papers.
They looked c***s and it lead to a boycott.

Wanna tell you a story
About a team I know
When it comes to football
They steal the show
They aint exactly pretty
Aint exactly small
But when they start attacking
You could say they've got it all

Never had a City
Never had a City Like you
Doin' all the things
Doin' all the things you do

etc etc

Makes sense, an Australian band for us to run out to.

There is so much musical heritage here there is even a museum celebrating it, and there’s not one single song that is favourable to this stuff being trotted out? Very weird

Yeah that was her. Utter bitch (sorry if that offends anyone, but she was!). Her old man was called Ken and was equally difficult. They used to own Browns (still do?). They hated everyone, let you in one week and not the next.

Yes, the cross! Top pub! Was having a break from that sort of thing when the colosseum was going. Sounded like a good night…

Didn’t really go the Elastic Inn much, but good nevertheless. Ah, god I feel old now!

Wasn’t the same after the Pink Parrot, Busters, Park Lane, Bug & Black Bat, Studio 21 all shut down, you were basically walking into Wild West style brawls every night in there 💪😆

Busters! Ha. Spent many a drunken late one in there (Tuesdays were interesting). Parrot and Park lane weren’t my sort of thing, farah and button down shirts galore. And a punch up if you felt like it. Good mate got a brick in the side of his head after a night in the Parrot. Don’t think I ever went.

Do you not think you're being a little precious over this? We need a song that the fans can sing along to and create an atmosphere. Could be Des O'conner as far as I'm concerned if the fans get behind it.

One of the last times we were in the Colly, now Kasbah, a friend thought he'd try his luck by writing 'he's got chlamydia' and showing it to any ladies with male attention, along with his NHS card as 'proof'. Suffice to say we had to leave fast

I know the specials have been suggested a lot already but what about the obvious, ghost town. The intro could play as the players walk out and if necessary the club could use the backing track only without lyrics

Not precious at all, just a little confused as to why loads of other clubs have their own song connected with their city, yet us- the ‘City Of Culture’, with a museum of music, and even a group that are known internationally and spawned a whole movement where even 40 yrs later commemorative CCFC shirts are being sold all over- well the best we can do is House of Pain and AC/DC- may as well just have the theme from the A Team and have done with it

'Saturday' by The Enemy seems an obvious contender to me.

Because most music from Cov isn’t exactly entrance music TBH.
I'll let that remark pass because youre probably too young to remember Frank Ifield but youre on thin ice!

I think Guns Of Navarone by the Specials ticks all the boxes:
1. It's Coventry
2. The book/film is about a band of renegades battling, against all the odds, against a greater foe.
3. It's got that thumping ska sound.
4. And no lyrics
I'd prefer something from The Enemy

Cathedral and Napalm Death are pretty local

I like the lyrics to this little number. We could all sing along to this
