Apart from Anderson and a bit of urgency from madueke this has been pedestrian.
The only surprise is that there hasn’t been a Mexican Wave as yet…it’s that boring

And we'll be doing it again in about a month for what I'm sure will be two completely pointless friendlies.

couple of hours ago when I switched on I was annoyed that I hadn't realised it was at Villa Park as I would have gone.

now I'm relieved I didn't.

Went to the game, it was a bore fest. At what point do you get concerned about Tuchel?

Say what you like about Southgate, we always looked convincing in qualification. Even under Carsley we looked much better against stronger opposition.

On a serious note , we dont have a proper test before the tournament , we probably would have been best playing a france or an Argentina in October rather than Wales.. so tuchel can see how his setup works against a top side

Why do you think Trent and Foden were left out? Injuries? Not in plans? A wake up call?

Just seems odd. They are 2 players any other country would build a team around regardless of form.

Btw , not a fan of madueke at all , 0 goals or assists since January so begs the question how hes getting selected over somebody like Bowen ?

Seems there is a fascination with wingers who completely slow the play down. Rashford was doing the same.

In qualification, Southgate set records for goals scored. I went to a 5-0 demolition of Albania in 2020 (?) and we played superbly, even though it was a 3-4-3.

I’m in two minds. On the ‘optimistic’ side, you don’t get style points for demolishing sides and the only important thing is getting the points to qualify. On the other hand, everything has looked laboured against low quality opposition and we looked terrible v Senegal. Our highest ranked opponent before the tournament starts.

Not trusting Carsley could turn out to be a huge mistake. We all panicked after one result and Carsley should be a leading contender for the job going into 2028 imo.

I’m not necessarily fussed by the number of goals scored, it’s the performances and more generally the clinging on to a tedious style of play that is falling out of favour. Teams are rediscovering that it’s more entertaining and dangerous to pass and move and shoot at the goal at higher tempos.

We have the players to do that.

I’m not going to get drawn into the past but with respect, you got what you wanted and as of right now it’s not looking good.

Tuchel should be a better manager (than Carsley and Southgate) but think we wrote of Carsley too soon to be honest. The style of football was good under him in the interim period.

We haven’t had a ‘full’ strength squad yet so want to resist the temptation to press the panic button.

If you were to pick a tournament type manager who was available at the time , tuchel would have been up there wouldnt he .

As I said in the end the performances from Southgates england were pretty drab and poor compared to earlier on in his tenure

We got some poor results too

Southgate himself recognised it was the right time to move on, just like I imagine Robins now recognises it was the right time at CCFC. I also wasn't among those arguing for Tuchel to get the job in his place.

I've made no secret of what type of football I think will be more successful and entertaining and any manager who goes along with that and is effective at getting these instructions across in the short timeframes you get in international management would be fine with more.

Just sick to the back teeth of slow tempo sideways tippy tappy shite.

I think tuchel might do well for us but again he might not , boring solid teams seem to do well in tournaments as england have shown before... surprised england fans are arguing against it considering we had that at our last couple of tournaments

Been my complaint for a number of years now, but there are now some elite teams showing that a different more entertaining way is also the antidote to this boring shite. I will say about Southgate's conservatism, if it did get us to the finals (and I still think we did so despite not because of it), we lost the finals we reached because he was far too defensive.

He got us to take our foot off Italy's necks at half time, then spent the Spain game playing for extra time and penalties.
