Really? Seemed like the same dross to me tbh. Anyway I wouldn't read too much into tonight the real test will come against the better sides starting with France. Beat them, put in a good performance and we could well be on our way to a good tournament.I agree should have pressed on and see what we got but as some say we could just be practicing containment and i must say we have kept our shape and discipline well. Still signs of a mighty improvement from Capello though.
we won....
The German's lost by 5 to the Swiss.....the Dutch lost, are we so bad? Think we look too deep at ourselves and should be criticising the opposition who may not be as good as you think? Remember Barcelona and Chelsea everyone...no one is as good as we all seem to think they are.
Dude, he's only just got the job.. That friendly would have been arranged some time ago.
It was in reply.. I don't disagree with what your saying other than he wants to play the bigger teams. He probably does, but he has to go with the schedule he has been given.
They're ranked 25 in the world so they are no mugs.....missed out on qualification by 3 points, and only a point behind the Portugeezers. Yes, they're a bag of shit....
He said he wanted to play against the better teams(Norway)....Hodgsons' words, not mine, Barcelona's club team would have battered us last night. Until we start restricting foreign players in British football, it will not allow decent British footballers to blossom.
Look at GB Ice Hockey team, half of them are Canadian, with a few Eastern Europeans, and a smattering of British.
To put it in a nutshell, the English team are not very good!
People slate Sven and forget his record:
2002 WC: Quarter Finals, lost 2-1 to Brazil
Euro 2004: Quarter Finals, lost on pens to Portugal
2006 WC: Quarter Finals, lost on pens to Portugal
After that, McClaren couldn't qualify for Euro 2008 and under Capello we left at the 2nd round in South Africa. How people criticise Sven's record is beyond me.
Disagree with you entirely there SBK. I actually think it's good having a high number of foreigners in the domestic system as it benefits our own players two fold from having more players to compete with to get to the highest level, and to come up against different footballing philosophies in the process. I also think we'd benefit if more British players went to ply their trade overseas and got schooled better in how other continental sides play their football, rather than a few games a year in the Champions League.
Losing to Brazil then twice on penalties in the manner we did shows he wasn't far away from delivering. Ronaldinho's freak goal in Japan, Portuguese cheating in 2004 and Rooney's red mist in 2006; I'd also add that Keegan fared a lot worse with similar talents at his disposal.
Venables had the benefit of not needing to qualify and having the tournament on home soil-and left straight afterwards. He was fine margins away from delivering finishes that most of us would've been pretty happy with, and, especially in the latter 2 tournaments, both were won by teams who played efficient rather than exciting football. Spain won in 2010 despite having scored the fewest goals of all the WC winners-does that make their brand of football negative and dire as well?
If they get overlooked it's probably because they're not as good. Our own players get the same stupid wages that foreign players do, and the transfer fees are even higher if a decent player happens to be English (see what Arsenal forked out for Oxlade Chamberlain). PL clubs are constantly signing young overseas players too, or if not young, players on the up; you also fail to address my other point-do you not think we would benefit if more English players went to play in the likes of the Bundesliga and La Liga?
