Ellis Simms (3 Viewers)

Simms isn't getting the service. Compare with the service top scorer Josh Maja's getting for WBA.

Three goals against QPR were all finishes inside the 6yd box from crosses. Yesterdays was another first time slot in from ininside the box.

He blew his 'Maja service' to put us 2 up against Oxford.

Corberan is a damn good manager at this level. Despite all the upheaval at WBA he still finds a way to keep the team challenging at the top end.

It does stick though? His hold up play has been fantastic in the second half of last season.

Which players are that worried about giving him the ball they give it to the opposition?

His strength is clearly running the channels against a defender.
I think it's outdated opinion from the start of season through possibly Christmas TBF¿

you’re talking like there was a constant stream of balls into him for him to hold up, there were hardly any

The issue was a lack of energy, a heaviness, a lack of any momentum & lots of errors- I don’t think you could single anyone out- just an all round flat performance.
Hard to disagree with your comments, an all round poor performance to be sure..

He's being instructed specifically not to run the channels so as to occupy the centre backs and create spaces between them and the full backs for our wider players to exploit.

Again. Lazy analysis. If other players believed a ball into feet to Simms was going to bring others into play and be the best attacking option, it would have been done more.

Believe what you want but I know full well that the belief isn’t there right now from the rest of the squad.

Check the amount of times it was played into him and the ball just bounces off, it’s not good enough.

He had 6 touches total on Saturday...

If players aren't passing to him because they don't trust him that's a sunday league level approach to the game and they should be embarrassed.

Both him and Wright showed very little composure with those chances
Lacked composure and should’ve done better but they were not gilt edged chance. We had one ‘big chance’ and I suspect that was the goal because it was the only shot in the box and actually on target!

At the death, BTA should’ve done better but it was still a tough, low probability chance. As Robins said, Wright should’ve been higher up the pitch for the square.

Whatever people think about Simms, he wasn't the problem today.

I think if Simms had still been on the pitch, I'm sure he would have Scored that Chance that Asante had at the end of the game.

Like he did in the Cup game at Bristol.

Thought to share the below from Cov analyst on Twitter as thought they showed the problem currently.

As I said earlier we just aren’t using Simms at all. You can’t say he’d just use it badly if you don’t give it him in the first place.

So basically we need to put Simms, BTA and EMC on the left as our righthand side doesnt pass to strikers.

Also the balls to Haj are so far back closer to halfway than the goal line.

Don’t like it.

I don’t believe Simms, EMC and BTA didn’t exchange a single pass with anyone?

15 players on the pitch is stupid.
Not that the didn’t make a pass but that there were so little it wouldn’t appear on the map e.g 1. Since simms only touched the ball and handful of times it would line up.

He has scored in 10 of the 53 league matches he's appeared in and has scored 1 goal in his last 13 games , he is our main striker .

If he was contributing and working hard you can look past it but He isn't working hard and isnt at all involved in matches barring the goal at Watford which was nice.

Mad that I made this post but the reality is he had a good 4 month spell between new year and April.

I think it was purely a purple patch. Looks shit again this season. I'd look at Wright in the middle with EMC left and Tats right. Creativity with a striker playing in his correct position in the middle.

Seems very much to be a confidence player.

When he’s confident and on form – he’s great. When he’s low on confidence he looks shite.

Just need one to go in off his arse or something to give him a boost and hopefully go on a run.

The difficult bit for MR of course is do you keep picking him when he’s playing poorly, and if you drop him is that going to knock his morale even further.
