Need to make an Ellis Simms apology form to go with the Frank and BTA ones
Because it's funny you could say the exact same about BTAWhy? He's had long spells where he's been abject, and I say that as someone who's defended him more than most.
Glad he seems to be turning a corner.

It's lovely to see his confidence grow. Taking part in the celebrations with the fans was a million miles away last year.Love the bloke. Clearly a confidence player and hes totally coming out of his shell and fully aboard the Lampard Express
Simms just had a bad season last year where he massively underperformed his xG. That's something he clearly needed to take accountability for and needed to improve on to continue his career with us. Even though he was "abject", he probably still should've scored 10+ goals so only a small uptick in form and finishing returns pretty big returns. If Rudoni was to score/assist a fraction of his tally from last season, v few people will have the knives out for him as our fans did for our strikers (including Haji). Why? There are a few extenuating circumstances, all our strikers struggled for form because Simms, BTA and Bassette were constantly in and out of the team and moreover, the team wasn't performing well. Even despite a career-low for Simms, he (and BTA) still scored important goals that won us games that ultimately helped secure playoffs. By all accounts, Simms + BTA were pushing through injuries too.
Side note: a lot of people said we needed a 'brick shithouse' to play the Lampard way and score headers... Simms has scored the same amount of headers as Keiffer Moore and 1 more than Carlton Morris. In fact, in about half the minutes, has scored the same amount of goals as the pair (non-penalties).
That's exactly the point. We'd all recognise that Rudoni has had injury issues and that all feeds into his form. As a whole, football fans are the least generous to strikers. Thinking ahead to a full strength team, I'm not sure how you fit everyone in because Rudoni is a bang on starter for me but when you have 3 strikers on 25 goals already, you probably start 2 of them.I'll be amazed if anyone's gets the knives out for Rudoni. He constantly contributes even if he's not scoring or assisting

In fairness to Simms, his entire career he's been a 1 in 3 striker and that's even at Cov where he had a disappointing season. All this 'games scored in' nonsense was just a way to misconstrue and spin his underlying numbers.
It's not seriousAgain, he was also poor last year.
The notion people should apologise is mental.
They were both supported during games by most people and as long as the criticism isn't vitriolic, (which unfortunately sometimes it is),then people have a right to call out poor performances
There was an element of people choosing to overlook some of the intangible things that our strikers did. For example, one of the reasons Rudoni scored so headers is because our strikers were really good at committing defenders which created space for players like Rudoni (and now) Eccles to attack. Thinking back to the playoffs, 2 defenders challenged Wright in the box for Rudoni's goals and little things like this don't show up in statistics as 'aerial duals won' or 'assists'. Rudoni shouted Simms out for this v WBA iirc (may have been another game). At times last year he couldnt control a ball. That's a fact, anyone who saw him can't argue with that.
We now know there was an underlying injury issue, and that must have been a factor, but for someone to suggest that people should apogise for criticising those performances is baffling.
