Old Post......12th March.
His massive u-turn came about when he got a sniff that the league may be decided using unweighted PPG (Posh out of playoffs) as opposed to weighted PPG (posh IN playoffs)

It doesn't bother him.
He said a few months back that none of his (im guessing key players) players are out of contract.
More reason for his massive media assault to try to resume.

I believe he said there contracts would be extended by a month. I don think he releases he doesn't have that power.

Its hard to know anymore. as the spouts so much.

Looks like him and the Tranmere lady are going to try and work together to come up with a figure or something

Trying to work out a solution covering the supposed strength of teams you have to play is fraught with problems, and no such solution would be able to factor in enough variables to provide a reliable outcome, particularly given results are often contrary to expectation towards the end of a season. A further example of this is that before this season we generally came unstuck against teams in the bottom half, but did well against teams in the top half, so how do you factor in that scenario? Even in this season of seasons we failed to beat Bolton's under 11's! Relying on simple PPG average based on what has actually happened, is a fairer means than theorising an outcome for what hasn't actually happened yet. There is no point making it any more complicated than needs be.

This I think is where philosoraptors graph's and values cover the weakspots on variables such as who and when an opponent is considered to be a challenge or pushover.

His wage bill is massively out. Ignoring the arbitrary 22 player squad limit he seems to have put in place the EFL have said it will take 56 days to complete the league. Even with a pre-season of only 2 weeks, which is the lowest anyone has suggested, that's £550,000 just for the players.

Also not sure you can really count not having to refund TV money as income.

My understanding is that the first vote is for all 71 teams to agree the two options - play on or ppg with promotion/relegation in both options as previously outlined
Then individual divisional votes
I guess they have to do this to satisfy the rules and regulations of the EFL
This should then help defend any subsequent legal action

No, it's basically double counting. It's like Matt Hancock's 50,000 nurses claim!

sure clubs opposed to return could come up with a different set of numbers. Kieran MacGuire (who goes through every club's finances) came up with a figure of 500k. Big difference to struggling clubs who can't balance their books by selling a "Toney".

what i do find bizarre now is if as i suspect it will take another 2 weeks for decisions , so training wont start till mid june which is when championship and premier will be starting to play games

also, is there a question around free transfer players ?. If they are out of contract end of June, and its possible you can offer a 1 month extension, surely some will want to be out of contract to try and find a new club / already have one lined up ?

You'd have to allow at least a week from a yes vote to get everything in place, and that's being optimistic. 2 weeks training and 6 weeks to complete the season puts us into August.

Next seasons fixtures should be released June 18 with the season starting August 7.

If they're voting to say playing is possible then they also need to take into account next season as there's no reason for that not to start. Are they suggesting the fixtures are drawn up overnight and the new season starts the day after the play offs?

I would agree with this.

But it also makes no valution of the average quality of opponents already played by each team which will raise or lower an individual teams PPG. PPG award teams who have a fixture list that is accidentally weighted towards playing other teams at the lower end of the table more, earlier on in a season.

The luck of the fixture draw could have a significant impact on PPG if the season finishes earlier, instead of relying solely on performance with the results teams have in games.

At 75% of games played i would argue it does. It includes every team plus one half of the teams for a second time.

Robins has said he would like a month before play resumes, that was about a month ago so he would probably want longer now. Taking that into account play wouldn't resume until early to mid July, 2 games a week for 5 weeks gets us to mid to late August, then you have play offs to get through before knowing who will be promoted and fixtures for next season arranged. You would then have to allow time for teams to form their squad for the new season and another pre season for that squad to gel. You may also see some teams go the way of Bury due to costs restarting, how is that scenario resolved, smaller leagues ? more promotion to make up numbers. It makes no sense to me to restart much as I'd love to see us win the league on the pitch, but i wouldn't see it as it would be BCD and a stream isn't the same.

The window to restart the season looks pretty much slammed shut now.

The first vote is for 71 EFL clubs to accept the EFL proposal (1./ End season on PPG with playoffs and relegation OR 2./ Play all games) into the EFL regulations for this season. 51% wins.

According to the EFL Zone on Twitter, they'll give clubs 5 days notice of this vote from 27th May EFL board meeting, so clubs vote on 1st June.

Then, each division will vote on 1./ or 2./ and again 51% wins. Who knows when this vote will be. Possibly 5 days from EFL board meeting on 3rd June, so we finally find out about promotion on 8th June?!

It's getting quite concerning on what will happen. If rather we completed games to be undisputed champions, but I am fearing null and void coming back to consideration :/

If this is true, I can't believe how much they are drawing this out. Presumably after vote 1, it will take another month for vote 2!

How can it when it's not one or the options being put forward?
Either we play on or it's decided on ppg
Either way I think we'll finish top

MusicDating has their finger on the pulse when they post.

They are stating that the 8th of June date is dubious (?!).

It's dependent on the first vote of the 71 clubs
If that's passed then the EFL can plan the divisional votes
Probably after a short period of lobbying so they have an idea of how things are likely to go in each division

His arguement is it should only cost £x to play a game behind closed doors and the clubs will be paying the balance of the wages anyway. What he hasn't ironed out is can those wages be paid bearing in mind the loss playing BCD in terms of match day revenue and walk ups etc.

I would imagine most clubs don't pay all the players and staff 3 months in advance and still are relying on those match day revenues to pay those wages...money that now won't be coming into the kitty. Sunderland, with crowds of 30K, will be losing a packet.

what happens if one or two clubs cannot fullfill the remaining fixtures? do they void the points each club got from actually playing them? Bolton going tits up would totally fuckup most of the clubs in the Top 8. City only lose three points and 2 goals for? Pboro loses 6 and 9 goals LOL!

The delay although frustrating is incredibly important in the sense that should anyone appeal the EFL can state it looked at and explored every opportunity.

I think we will eventually go down the PPG route , no idea on the split with teams, but personally I cannot see 12 teams voting to carry on.

What teams say publicly and what they vote for is also completely down to interpretation. It’s a secret ballot, so I would expect playoff teams to vote to stay in (despite what they say publicly) why would you vote to play additional games when you can potentially get promoted by winning 3 and avoiding Sunderland, posh etc ...
It’s all positive PR this “ we must carry on...” essentially time will run out for the season to be completed and rightly or wrongly Cov will be promoted as champs

I am puzzled how the clubs with absolutely nothing to play for will behave were the season be played out. Like say Shrewsbury - who we would play first up I believe. How motivated? What strength side? Will they give a f**k? Or even be resentful at having to play 9 games they don't want. You have a feeling they might roll over, in which it will become a farce, and increasingly so as more teams get added to list of those with nothing to play for. Not even any fans you feel an obligation to to motivate the players.

Can't see that. Even at my useless sunday league level as soon as you are on a football pitch it's all or nothing. Even considering all that's going on. And these blokes are professionals. I was done after 20 minutes.

Having a laugh about what? I said rightly or wrongly whether you agree about PPG or not we will be promoted as champs? That’s a comment about PPG not about how good Cov are.

Cov may well be the best team in the league this season, unfortunately I doubt we will get to see the full compliment of fixtures to prove it definitively or to give the players the proper plaudits they deserve.

We are top for a reason , I get that... but it would be incredibly naive to therefore assume we possibly couldn’t have a blip with multiple games to go , especially if you factor in a massive break which breaks any continuity of form.

I have been a Cov fan for too long (as have you or others on here) to know that if there is an opportunity to bottle, Cov are capable of doing so (frustratingly).

if we played the season out to a conclusion I would like to think we have a great chance of finishing the job.

But you would be an idiot to think the job is done already.

Although saying we are the best team in the league (as of March) when the season finishes in May probably demonstrates that. ‍

and how many players do they have out of contract at the end of June ?. Why on earth would they pay them for another month, incuring more costs and nothing to gain. Its daft

This has turned into an even bigger farce, if the vote is to carry on in LG1 but then say the Championship went PPG in the end, what would happen to the next season start dates? Release of fixtures etc...it’s been handled badly compared to other countries it seems.
