long way home

Eccles is not going to hurt this squad in fact he is one of a few that doesn't worry me. Plenty more in this group that need to be looked at 1st before dragging Eccles out the door.
Hope not believe me I may have appearedI thought Eccles had a really good cameo tonight, with his injury unfortunately coming from a vital block. Probably depends whether Sheaf stays, but I don't think its a certainty that Eccles will leave in the Summer.
I think he suits Grimes style of play more than Sheaf does . Could be the partnership for next seasonProved last night that he is more than capable of playing at this level. Definitely other players we should be looking at moving on first and other areas of the team that need strengthening first
Whether he is one of our own or not, or whether he cost anything are utterly immaterial. Is he good enough on the pitch is the only material question? Certainly not as a starter. Keep him as a squad unless we get an offerFuck me, that's fucking brutal.
He's one of our own, cost us nothing, and made over 130 appearances, not a high earner, always gave 100% and was part of our journey from league 1 to where we are now. When we hadn't got 2 pennies to rub together we were grateful to rely on him.
If we've moved on and his time here is to come to an end, why not just wish him all the best?
It's the total disrespect that was the issue rather than the question of "should we keep him" or not.Whether he is one of our own or not, or whether he cost anything are utterly immaterial. I got to Cyrus Christie and stopped reading.I wouldn't. What do the 3 parachute clubs have that the majority of the rest of the league doesn't? Squad depth. 2 or 3 decent players for every position. Not only for injury purposes but for competition too. We've got 6 top class midfielders and for one reason or another, 5 of them played tonight. We all know Sheaf is injury prone, Allen blows hot and cold amd Torp can doubtful do a full season. In our midfield 6 we've got, imo, the strongest midfield squad in the league. Why get rid of a player that will happily ride his time, won't be costing the earth in wages, and can throw in a cameo like he did tonight if and when called upon. Keep the midfield 6 (Grimes, Sheaf, Allen, Torp, Eccles, and Rudi) and that's you're entire engine room sorted for the longevity of the season. At points this season we've had Torp, Sheaf, Rudi and Eccles injured. A few at the same time too. Why lose that depth? If we need to lose dead wood, Lats, Binks, Simms, BTA, Rapheal are all in the queue ahead of Eccles.
Keep that midfield 6. Bring in a decent CH (i read today Callum Doyle will be available on a free, imagine what a coup that would be) a RB (again, Cyrus Christie is also available on a free unless I've missed something?) as I think we need to lose one of MVE or Rudi to make funds. And 2 strikers. EMC and Saka are good enough if they had somebody in the middle better than Wright and/or Simms.
For me, a RB, a CH and 2 strikers. That's what we need IF we can keep this squad together and not get picked apart by the vultures coming down with parachute payments.

I think he will play more games if Sheaf leaves .Eccles is now 25. At this stage of his career he needs regular football and he will not be getting it here so I would think he would be better going
He's gone missing all season but did well because of one through ball and one block.I really hope we keep him. He showed last night what he's capable of and I think that was a very interesting point from Lurker, that maybe Eccles suits playing alongside Grimes more than Sheaf does
He was our best player for quite a spell at the start of the season. He's gone missing all season but did well because of one through ball and one block.
Move on
It's someone's unfunny alt. account , best to ignoreHe was our best player for quite a spell at the start of the season.
It looked like his hamstring had goneAny news about his injury?
Finally showed Lampard what we’d all seen first half of the season (when he was one of the only players to perform). Looked a far better, more mobile partner to grimes than sheaf last night. The blocks got the attention but check out pass to Wright on 72 mins or so straight after he came on….cant remember many other quick, longer balls like that played by our players over the tie
On the slow-mo, it looked like as Eccles put the block in the Sunderland players follow through from his shot catches him on the back of his leg.It looked like his hamstring had gone

We need quick longer balls to take advantage of the good physical qualities we have in the team; EMC, Saka, Wright, Simms and BTA. Hopefully more to follow.
As with most players, he’ll want to play first team football. There’s no evidence he’d be happy to be a squad player, especially as he’s approaching his prime. He can't be close to being one of the top earners, is probably happy enough being a squad player. Not really sure there's a reason to get rid.
We seem to have this thing of every player having to be one of the best in the Championship or not worth keeping. It would be nice to have a squad filled with players like that but its not realistic.
Lampard has mentioned this season the lack of numbers hampering training, can't see him getting rid of players like Eccles.
We should sign this guy:
