Gone from every game starter under Robins to 6th choice CM for Lampard.

If Stoke want to give us £1.5m-3m in the summer for him I'd take it.

He has never been consistently good enough for a team pushing for promotion.

Unfortunately a lot of people don’t want to hear it because he is ’one of our own’

If he is happy to be a squad player, I would keep him. Versatile and still developing.

Fuck me, that's fucking brutal.

He's one of our own, cost us nothing, and made over 130 appearances, not a high earner, always gave 100% and was part of our journey from league 1 to where we are now. When we hadn't got 2 pennies to rub together we were grateful to rely on him.

If we've moved on and his time here is to come to an end, why not just wish him all the best?

He has played over 125 games - he isn’t still developing.

A squad player maybe but we are looking at promotion these days as opposed mid table.

If we get a decent bit, take the money and reinvest.

There was a period earlier this season where he was about the only player standing up to be counted. More recently under Lampard he got a brace. He might not be getting much of an opportunity now and had a couple of poor games when he did play but I'm not at all writing him off.

His brace was in boxing day, half a season ago.

Who knows why he’s been left out? it May be a straightforward reason.

Just a stroke of bad luck on his part I'd say. He got injured just as Ben was coming back, Torp was finding form and Grimes was firing on all cylinders. Also FL has made it very clear he's a Jamie Allen fan. That's 4 people ahead of him now he's out injured, you'll always find it hard coming back from an injury straight in to contention, even more so with 4 players like that ahead of you. Though he's not whining or kicking off (otherwise surely we'd of heard) and is happy filling in as a squad player, he won't be on loads wages wise. If we don't go up (and let's be honest, even IF we turn it around on Tuesday we've still got to get past blades) I'd happily keep him as a squad player. Good for rotation/cup games etc. We wouldn't get much in terms of a fee, and wouldn't replace him for the fee we would get. I'd keep hold. Possibly look to loan him out with the recall option if Sheaf gets injured again.
Same in the GK department. I'd get rid of Collins, bring in a new No1 for the foreseeable then it's between him and Dovin to fight for it on merit. Then loan out Wilson again with the recall option just incase. Have the loaning team pick up a good chunk of their wages.

I thought this year was a big year for him, and earlier this season I felt he was becoming a really important and consistent player who goes under the radar - not getting as much wrong as he did before.
But then FL came in and he just doesn’t fancy him does he?

I'd like 5M at least for Eccles due to the exorbitant rates some players are going for. We got really shafted with Simms and Wright and EMC and need to recoup some cash.

Remember the geniuses who said Vik and Gus weren't good enough. Can't think of a player in the last 8 years who hasn't been written off on here.
Eventually the penny is going to drop that football now more than ever is a squad game.
Eccles has never let us down. He played hell of a lot of minutes both seasons we got to Wembley.
Guess Grimes has taken over his role. I suspect Eccles will be back here or elsewhere.

He played twenty odd games in a season for a side who got a penalty kick away from promotion

Jack the price up I'd say, although you'd assume £2-3m anyway, maybe they don't like his choice of barber or the seeming Impression that he talks out of school.

He’s always bounced back from poor patches… give the lad a chance ffs. These are the same people going nuts when players like Hamer won’t stay loyal to us. He’s a quality squad player who is more than good enough to justify his place in the squad.

I think Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford all eventually went up to the EPL after coming close via the playoffs on multiple occasions. They sold their best players, reinvested the money, developed stronger and more balanced squads over time. We have to have that similar vision and forward thinking. Not saying Eccles is one of our best players by any means, but if there’s interest in him from other teams and if we can get a decent fee to reinvest in the squad then it’s a win-win.

In most cases I think its lazy to link players to Stoke/Robins, or just wishful thinking in a lot of cases actually... but Eccles stinks of it.

Robins often said how highly he rated Eccles, and while he may struggle for game time at a club that now expects to be top 6, he'd be a real asset to a team like Stoke who are looking for year on year improvement.

And considering he'd not be too expensive in today's market, and is a versatile squad player, I think he'd be the perfect fit for Stoke.

Personally I wouldn't be too disappointed if he stays, he's better cover at RWB and CM than Lats (imho)
But obviously the money would be useful, and the lad will want game time, which would be scarce here.

Yep-not a player who is going to get us where we want to be. Will he be a good addition to say a Stoke etc who want to go from the bottom of the table to lower-mid table? Absolutely.

I would like to see what Andrews and Moore can do because if they are as good as said, we lose nothing by cashing in on Eccles come summer. I like him as a player but may be time for a fresh start and us to use the fee in others areas of the field.

We went from lower mid table to top 6 with him as part of the squad and getting plenty of game time

I'm not to bothered if he goes and we can use transfer fees/wages elsewhere but the idea he's not a top half championship player isn't borne out by the career he's had so far.
