Granted but there were also enough games when we were poorForgive me if I am wrong but the season before last during the bad start there were games were we played really well but missed loads of chances and gave away stupid goals
last season we were just urgh
yes, but there more promising signs than their were last season.Granted but there were also enough games when we were poor
Totally agree. Start to last season wasn't just results, the performances were honking. There was no major turnover in the squad and the fixtures were pretty favourable.Forgive me if I am wrong but the season before last during the bad start there were games were we played really well but missed loads of chances and gave away stupid goals

True. The beginning of last season was very frustrating . Something clearly wasn't right and the performances reflected thatyes, but there more promising signs than their were last season.
I agree but surely a decent start makes a significant difference? As I said before maintaining it is hugely influenced by squad depth for when there are injuries or players needing a rest. Nothing is guaranteed by starting well but just the confidence alone gained has some influenceI get the feeling people think if we have a good start we'll automatically have a strong finish and that would put us challenging for the autos, which I just don't think is realistic.
I do think it would be better (for everyone's sanity if nothing else) if we picked up points more steadily throughout the season rather than having the wild swings in form we do ut as Shmmeee pointed out that's the reality for pretty much every team in the top 10 bar 2 or 3.
Would we of missed those sitters if we were fit and match ready? That's some take.
And we didn't run out of steam really, we missed 2 very good chances, Godden missed a sitter, and they brought on Dewsbury Hall who's a game changer and that's exactly what he did.
Though Sunderland went to bits at the end last season but still got promoted.
I think it's just about accumulating enough points to get into the play offs and take it from there.
How and when those points are accumulated isn't that relevant.
Very few teams show season long consistency and those that do are generally teams who've just come down and have parachute money.
Sort of. Data dropped off during the winning run but we were getting/scraping results. Funny game is football.beginning of last season our expected data had us around the top 6.
Lampard managed to turn that expected data into actual data.
I still don’t think we would have been in trouble if robins had stayed but that’s just treading the same ground again
I think Sunderland, with their points, cleverly rested players, but it could have backfired on them. There is no sure fired way of getting promotion, those that do deserve it.

Im convinced that if you want top three then you need a big squad of quality that you can use to maintain momentum the entire season.
I think the point is, we don't want to be turning things round every season.you cant say with any certainty he wouldn't have turned it round.
We will never know.
like others have pointed out though. its very rare a none parachute team is consistent for an entire seasonI think the point is, we don't want to be turning things round every season.
Who has said they wouldn't want a good start? Can't understand why anyone wouldn't want a good start .
I didn't say that anyone wouldn't. I just stated that I couldn't understand why anyone would think that way.Who has said they wouldn't want a good start?
Lampard and the coaches that came with him have certainly had a positive influence. This season coming up is the true test when there will be squad changes due to the latest managerial set up.For me the standard of coaches appointed last summer were not good enough. The players didn’t look fit to me. I know it’s only a snippet but the City Unseen videos went from them playing head tennis to playing serious little two touch games with the change in management and coaching
I honestly don’t see too many changes happening. Obviously depends on who leaves but think the focus will be making sure we have depth in all areasLampard and the coaches that came with him have certainly had a positive influence. Agree on the fitness point. We were miles off in the early stages of last season.
Were we not far worst than this last season? i am sure after 15 games we were nearer 17/18th?View attachment 43949
We were getting steadily worse. We know we can finish strongly, get the start right and who knows....
That's absolutely right. All pre-season we had hyped ourselves up. Settled squad, easier league, etc. Followed by an abysmal start.Totally agree. Start to last season wasn't just results, the performances were honking. There was no major turnover in the squad and the fixtures were pretty favourable.
Hopefully we are ready from the off this time.
This is all obviously true, but it would be nice to go into January on 39 rather than 29 pts.Plenty of teams start well but then drop off.
On the day Robins was sacked Millwall and Boro were top 6 but didn't maintain the pace.
In the one Championship season under Robins we started well we didn't finish top 6.
Those peaks and troughs are the story for all but a few teams, of course a good start would be great, but it doesn't guarantee anything.
Depends on squad depth.
10-15 million you say!!??!!I dont think Doug would fund the wage bill required to get the depth required tbh. And I’m not sure I’d want him to. You’re talking another £10-15m.
