Doug King interview (8 Viewers)

I know someone linked this in a thread but thought it might be worth posting separately, really good interview I thought.

Thanks, just listened to the whole thing. King is a very impressive owner.

Like the way the interview went into the mechanics of running the club and what his ambitions for the future are.

One think I'd pull him up on is how he said the lost a generation of young fans and were playing catch up to get them back. I'd say some of his kids pricing hasn't helped in that regard.

What I've always been impressed by with Doug is he is very open and honest in these interviews. Doesn't just say what we want to hear, and doesn't over promise.

We went from having the worst owners in the country to one of the best

He remembers the embarrassment of Lorna and Rob at the fans forum, sounds like he game them / the BBC a right earful.

They were awful (along with others) that night
Yes it was really poor and some of the questions and people asking them were embarrassing. I thought he handled himself exceptionally well during this debate. He did not need to subject himself to this discussion but was man enough to do it.

Agree, it was an amateurish stitch up when most people knew deep down that another poor start and our form was unacceptable but couldn't put their emotions aside. As he said he didn't need to do it, but he went along and got threw under the bus for the first 10 minutes. I felt embarrassed just listening to it on the radio.

Rob acted like an emotional fan not a broadcaster. He played to the crowd only for Doug to bury him with a much more open response to answers than anyone had assumed he would give. Even after it finished he kept saying “ if what Doug says is true “ … he’s lucky the club didn’t ban him, many owners would have.

Good for him, bet they are on best behaviour around him now. It was an embarrassment.

It was an interview about entrepreneurship in sport. What we're you expecting?
Interesting that he sees football as a simple business with comparatively modest turnovers against the commodities trading he has made his fortune in. Clearly he is use to making £500mil+ deals as part of of his portfolio.
He is/has invested in the club both financially and personally and we are lucky to have him as our owner compared to some of the shit shows we have seen running clubs in recent years.

He always comes across as a very clever and very determined man who gets what he has set out to do, keeps it simple, keeps things quiet but is very effective. Has made some fantastic decisions in staffing and investments so far and think he will shock a few around that big boys table of the prem. As he will not be the richest but im sure he will in time become respected and listened to on how you build a club and how you sustain and grow income.

He will get things wrong but the major issues he seems to fall on the right side, hope it continues as i want my club to be an established premiership club for the future generation to enjoy.

I struggle to listen to Gurney tbh

Gutted Clive didn't sign off last season

Interesting snippets in the part 2 video :
-that he turned down a tv deal last year to document the club for the season - his reasoning was that it would have distracted us from our promotion goal.
-that he hopes the stadium will be making £15m profit after 5 years.

Yep-glad he mentioned it and called them out. Don’t think they’ll mess with him again like they did really when they organized a room full of witch hunters.
