Does your partner like football, or hate it?

Before I met her my wife followed football news and results but never had a team. Once she met me and we became a couple at college I got her interested in Coventry and we would watch games together on TV and she even came to a match with me in late 2019. Ever since we got married in early 2024 she's been to all but one game I've attended in person.

Football is one of the main reasons we had such a good dynamic.

My wife vicariously follows Coventry City, loves hearing the songs and hearing about the behind the scenes gossip. She also watches the big matches on telly and attended the Championship Playoff Final with me. We have an agreement where if there's a match on TV I want to watch, I bring back a sweet treat from my work city as penance. She loves it when I go to matches because it means she gets the day to herself!

Mine had a passing interest until the Northampton exile which she chose to write her university dissertation on. Interviewed a lot of fans at away games that season and then having suffered through said games with me got really attached. Started going regularly with me in League 2 before going in for season tickets in 21/22 which she’s had every season since.

In her words, she loves the club.

Mine hates it! Before I was aware of this when we were dating (on the mature side), I said I had a surprise for her birthday. Took her to watch the City and she has lived out on this for years when discussing birthdays with friends.

I have had many girlfriends over the years. I did count them up at one point and it was something like 25-26, but we are talking about over a 50 year period, so it's not that many in the grand scheme of things.

Anyway, the point wasn't to brag in any way, it was just to highlight the point that every single girlfriend I have ever had has hated football. Every single one. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Only once have I taken a girlfriend to a football game (it was a City game) and she decided to start cheering for the other side, because they played in yellow and she liked yellow

Never again.

At least my new missus always asks how they got on, because she knows of my vested interest every match

Divorced now but mine never got it. Regular arguments about why we couldn't do anything on Saturday afternoons and if we were on TV 'can't you just record it'

The post match phone in drove her insane, although she may have a point there.

Quite often got the why do you bother when it just makes you miserable all weekend question.

My partner has a bias towards Norwich given that she was born and bred in the fair city. Having said that, she is not particularly bothered if we dont watch a televised game.
Took her to the game at Carrow road last January and sat with the Cov fans. She was well put off by the utter foul language of a family behind us consisting of two lads (about 10 or 11) and two adults... it was non stop throughout the game and the only reason that I didnt turn round and have a rant was that the guy was built like a brick air raid shelter and would have destroyed me.... Nett result, I'll probably never get her to a game again. Shame, but it is what it is.
I should add that I'm a retired truck driver and theres not many words I havent heard (or used) in my 30+ years on the road... 🤬

Took my wife around 1977 before we were married. Stood on the Kop.

after 10 mins she wanted. Coffee, so went and got her that, then the loo. Of course she would never find me again so had to take her there and back. Then another coffee. Same for 2nd half.

hardly saw the game, missed one goal, and strangely, I never took her again.

except for the recent Wembley games of course. weve been married a longtime by then so she can get her own coffee and find her own way back :ROFLMAO:

Mine has a passing interest, watches the city unseen with me and the odd game if she isn't doing anything else but she wouldn't go looking for results etc, most of the time she's just trying to wind me up.

After the Luton play off final game, as soon as I got back into the house I was treated to a rendition of. 'Run away, you run away, from the premier league, you run away'. Which she thought was hilarious.

Nah. Mine likes to know how we're doing as she knows I'm happy if the answer is 'good.'
Apart from that she couldn't give a shit.

Is this an elaborate way to find out who's single?

I’m sorry people my wife doesn’t like football she is a Villa fan, a typical Villa fan though never been to a game there. Early in our relationship I took her to a city game away at Grimsby our fans sang shit on the villa for large parts of the game. She won’t even watch our son play as she finds it boring.

My mum is a season ticket holder but has only been going to games regularly for about three season but caught the bug going to Wembley.

My wife is sound. Loves it when she's involved at a live game.

Can take it or leave it when on the Tele as she doesn't like the stress.

Favourite player is saka. She finds him sweet, followed by simmsy, finds him humble

She has basically no interest in it but has been to two away games, Yeovil and Fulham - had to tell her that neither are really representative of the average day at the football.

Personally quite like that she’s not into it really, you’ve got to have some stuff that’s your own thing. And not sure who’d be looking after the baby if we were both going to the games on a Saturday…
