So one source which was reported as a bid believed to be in the region of £10M
Don't worry Chris it's good thing not be gullible! The way the transfer window plays in the press is all about advertising for them and the "facts" come second third and fourth.

In any protracted negotiation that I've been involved there will be an agreement between sides about what to say, if anything, in public. If one side is leaking through a press contact (truths, partial truths, incomplete pictures, complete BS) then it's likely to be for nefarious reasons. The public is being played and fans lap it all up.

If you think clubs spend any time talking to each about how to respond to press comment on transfers then you don’t know the business side of football.

Exactly, nothing will be said! Another approach is to an agree a short statement aong the lines of "talks are taking place and some progress is being made..."

My impression is that the club might have been looking at Hughes, with Woolfenden, or one or the other but needed to raise funds. We tried all summer to move MVE and it didn't happen and we went with Woolfenden and sold Sheaf. The fact that this was was all finalised last minute really tells us that we probably needed the sale to complete the picture. Just because some reporter said that Hull's price is in excess of £10m doesn't mean he was coming or that £10m is available for another player or that we were ever going to get Hughes at £10m. If you look back over the summer 90% of the stories in the papers and on Sky and 99% of the Twitter stories will be proven to be nothing.

Ah yes. Media outlets. Famed for accuracy and reliability.

Well that’s obviously circumstantial.

The sun gossip column for instance may be likely to peddle any old bollocks but Hull’s main reporter would not be reporting on 3 rejected bids if they were not real. Not to mention the fact the fans didn’t want to accept so it had absolutely no benefit to the noise surrounding the move whatsoever.

Local news is dead. Our main reporter is Andy Turner and he gets his rehashed stories from places like this. I imagine there will be stories on the Hull sites saying 'there must be something in it, their main reporter has said so'.

The same Andy Turner who knew about Rapha leaving before any of us or any national media outlets or any supposed ITK’s had heard of?

You only have to look on Twitter to see Hull fans seem to believe what Baz writes so he is obviously credible.

Would now be a good time to remind folk that Turkish sides can still sign players until Sept 12? We may not have quite heard the last of the MvE to Besiktas rumours.

Think it was only one person who suggested it and we were all left guessing at 9pm who the outgoing was as no one seemed to have a clue. Most people seemed to suggest it was Bidwell going.

My overall point though is that the local media teams close each clubs will get given information directly. To suggest Baz at Hull is making these 3 bids up is just a bit strange.

CWR and Cov Telegraph get briefed by the club before an announcement is made so they can prepare their own articles. Very rarely do they have any exclusive reporting beyond that

We might have done better to just wait for that instead of tracking 626 pages of fantasy on the transfer thread tbh

A couple of points.

Hughes before Woolfenden? Most probably down to price. Was our last bid 7m? Do we believe what we read on the supposed bids?

Money available? We will never know. Was Sheaf sold to pay for Hughes but they turned down our highest bid that came after the 7m bid? Was Sheaf sold in the hope of bringing in Woolfenden and another midfielder that failed? It's now known we've been after Woolfenden for a couple of months at least.

If anyone would have been told we would keep all of our best players and also purchase our own home whilst strengthening our defence with finally getting cover for MVE we would have been delighted. But after the event some would love you to think it's all gone wrong.

I'm very happy with where we are. We haven't spent millions on squad fillers. We've had a strong start with lots of goals. We've brought in a defender with experience of getting to the Prem and actually in the Prem that most of their supporters can't believe they sold so cheaply or even sold at all. His experience will help our present defenders.

And if we did have more money to spend we will still have it in a few months to strengthen as needed as we didn't waste it now.

You keep commenting on my posts looking for a ‘gotcha’ moment when you’ve failed to provide a viable alternative opinion. In other words, you’re a fucking idiot

Turner will have been told
Via club / had press release, embargoed for 8:30pm or whenever it landed.

he’s certainly not in the know anymore, as mentioned suspect he and others look at forums like this, try and join dots with other crumbs for the click articles. Gone are the days of a telegraph exclusive.

King has the club as a tight ship now.

Doug acknowledges the squad might be a little thin. Glad he recognises that and I suspect there will be players lined up for Jan. Quality players that is.

I liked his style, he is a good speaker and includes a little humour in between the serious points. Quite different in this relaxed and supportive atmosphere than when he is facing the press.

"We did OK" (in the transfer window)
"We're full of quality"
"Squad is a little bit thin"

Good to hear he is aligned with what most (sane) fans think. It is clear he wanted more as well and this isn't a case of us being happy with what we have

I expect us to push again for 2/3 in January
