Putin for one will make sure of it otherwise he will have no economy and no working age men left by the time he’s finished draining NATO of ammo.

No one wants either candidate. The general view though is that people will settle on trump as he’s at least able to speak and has a pulse. It’s beyond a joke either can stand to be the leader of the US but Biden is beyond incapable - he’s 80 going on 90

He won’t have to and frankly the only benefit of a trump administration is it would hopefully end the dumb action of the West propping up a nonsense corrupt country like Ukraine just as it’s a border to Russia

What do you think happens if Russia takes control of the majority of Ukraine? Putin appoints an anti-corruption tsar and things end happily ever after?

I don’t see Putin and Russia as a military threat to the West. As I’ve said let him have his day - Ukraine is a deeply unpleasant country mired in corruption, racism and homophobia - it’s not a country worth wasting money on.

Do you think Putin will stop at seizing some Ukrainian territory and it will just be a vanity project for him or do you think he needs to go further to feel he’s achieved his aims? Do you think NATO will feel content in the event Russia takes most or all of Ukraine?

Polls don’t look great for Biden at the moment but we are still a long way out - seem to remember many on here predicting he’d be obliterated in 2020 as well.

I still don't get what on earth is possessing him to go again. First time out he was at least the safe experienced pair of hands who wasn't Trump, even if he was decrepit. Surely though one term and get his party in a state that they could find some 50yo capable of running was the way to go, though!

Mind you, here's Trump, and the Republican Party seem likely to turn a blind eye to his insurrectionist tendencies, so what does that say as well?

Democracy is dead?

I think people are underestimating how hard it would be for the Democrats to line up an heir apparent and still allow Biden to govern with credibility. Given the scale of the problems the US faced in 2021 it just wasn’t feasible for Biden to be a lame-duck president so early in his term.

And that’s even if he felt he couldn’t win again and was willing to go along with it - he really believes he’s the best opponent to Trump.

I get that to an extent, and I suppose the hope was that Harris would be that successor anyway. For whatever reason, that doesn't look like happening.

There's a moderate chance both Biden and Trump die before they even get to start their second term, anyway!

Tbh I’m not sure Harris was ever the succession plan, her shortcomings as a candidate were painfully obvious in the primaries and she consistently polls worse than Biden against Trump. If it was the plan, it wasn’t a very good one!

Have you heard Trump speaking. It's like listening to the stream of consciousness of a four year old. With the language skills of a two year old. If he had the cognitive decline of Biden no-one would be able to notice the difference.

And at the end of the term Trump would be over 80.

Again unable or unwilling to see the irony of your own post. Ukraine may be corrupt, racist and homophobic, but do you know who's guilty of all those things to a much bigger degree? Russia.

As for 'letting him have his day' are you really that stupid? Ukraine wouldn't be his day. It'd then be Georgia followed by any other country that was Soviet. And if he managed to get all them his ego and self belief would be that high I've little doubt he'd have a crack at countries outside of that sphere of influence.
Crimea was supposed to be letting him have his day - how the fuck has that worked out?

Makes me think that conclusion was deliberate by the two professors. Surely anyone worth their salt, and certainly those at Harvard, would see that the data was skewed by an outlier.

Bit like using mean averages for growth when it's blatantly obvious it's misleading because most of it is outliers of the super-rich.

Ego ? Said before, it’s a travesty the US has the choice of these two as president. I’m sure I heard earlier in the week that 70% of Americans don’t want this. In that case democracy is dead

Ps hopefully Biden picks a different VP as I genuinely can’t see him seeing out another term in good enough health.

So the only reason that you can possibly support Ukraine is because you’ve bought into another country’s propaganda. It can’t possibly be on a basic principle that if a country is invaded it has the right to defend itself and expel that invader.

Presumably that door swings both ways and if you don’t support Ukraine you’ve bought Russian foreign policy strategy?

While I understand the concerns about Bidens health I can't understand why more isn't made of Trumps. He's a mess.
I agree, neither should be running but as NW said, the alternatives aren't great.

While neither candidate is popular with the general public, “democracy is dead” isn’t entirely fair given that both Biden and Trump are breezing through their respective party’s primaries. It’s not like either are unelected.

The odds of either Biden or Trump dying in office seem very slim to me. Trump’s the only one who came close!

You don’t have to look hard to find videos of Trump talking gibberish. I’m not even talking about the content or context. I mean literally talking incomprehensible gibberish, non existent words, unable to pronounce very basic words, all over the place with nonsensical sentences etc etc.

At least with Biden you can point to the fact that he’s been inflicted with a severe stammer his whole life and has always talked in laboured way as a technique to talk without stuttering and stammering.
