We've gone from a roly-poly philanderer to a sort of work experience PM and I for one am loving it.

It's madness as a load of the people who backed Truss are Johnson loyalists.

How can you deregulate childcare anyway, unless you fancy Rose West ending up being a nanny?

Can’t see it. Deal with a shitstorm for the next few years or earn millions on the speaking circulate ?! He could return in future but very little to gain from it being now

Been a strange time though so who knows

He'll be seething at Kwartengs speech.
He'd love a shot at a retort. Expect it to happen somewhere soon, he won't be able to help himself.

I don't believe it's fully about the money with old Etonians.

Trained to lead and failed.

That's his epitaph if he doesn't return.

His ego took a bruising when his own party MPs ousted him. To make them put him back in charge would be appealing.

He wouldn't be worse, so won't happen.

I'd even say we're more likely to see a moment where his ego sets up a separate party, and we see a split in Tories? He's about as opposed ideologically to Truss as it seems possible to get within a party, and he won't like being deposed.

Don’t disagree with the above comments, just can’t see it immediately. Likelihood if he gets put in now is he gets smashed at next election anyway. Needs some time to pass

Johnson would no doubt absolutely love to come back but it would be disastrous for the Tories. Bringing back a bloke who not long ago they had no confidence in? Not a good look.

Pretty much this, if he is interested it would be after an election when he can be the tory white knight and put them back together again after defeat

In his own words he was thinking before next Christmas, which is over a year away. I wasn't suggesting he'll try an immediate power grab but I don't think he can resist another tilt at it within the course of this Parliament.

Johnson could most likely be easily persuaded to run but not sure the best option for them is the guy who was so bad he got hounded out of office.

Same can be said of Sunak to an extend, he was there with Johnson and couldn't beat Truss. Could easily be seen as a serial loser. He may be better off waiting until there's yet another leadership election after the now seemingly inevitable election defeat.

Think this is a step too far even for the Conservatives with their knack of changing leader and blaming everything on the old regime.

You could argue an election now is the best option. Things could easily go to shit this winter. People unable to afford food or heating, talk of blackouts. Get Labour in charge when all that was happening and at the next election they can claim it was all Labours fault, look how bad things were under Labour etc

Some people love the idea of deregulation until something goes seriously wrong, then it's all why didn't someone do something to prevent this.

But never seem to remember the shitshow it causes and are quickly calling for more deregulation.

For some reason they can't see regulation as the thing that stops the bad stuff happening, only it getting in the way of growth.
