Pretty much everything is traded in dollars. From seeds to metals to frozen concentrated orange juice (the last one is for the film connoisseurs). From the minute you eat your breakfast to the second you switch your lights out before going to bed the exchange rate is effecting our lives.

They're coming, they can always find 'efficiencies' and have run on a campaign of a small state which basically means slashing swathes of services and the employees that deliver them. We'll also get the 'more with less' condescending horseshit that they're so fond of.

This isn't tame at all. People have a lot less disposable income now than the ERM days. Wages are stagnant and everything is being ravaged by inflation. A lot of people are going to have a tortuous winter.

Tame, my arse.

I had no disposable income then and ended up in significant negative equity on a very small flat which was a terrible purchase and the monthly payments became 50% of my total income. So actually yeah it was tortious and my disposable income off my main job was negative

According to Sky's analysis the effect of the leadership of Lizz Truss has added 2% to the forecast interest expectation for next year .
The mini budget a further 1.25% .

According to the same analysis the figure of 6% next year does indeed match the level of 14% back then .

Well. Given they’re in charge it literally has to be a Tory plot. Old Kamikwasi didn’t wake up on Saturday morning going “shit, I accidentally trashed what’s left of the economy by reading a joke mini budget out in parliament. It was only bants”.

I mean, I think they have some pretty dumb beliefs about how to run an economy, and they’re backfiring quickly.

You appear to think the only explanation for people acting differently from how you would do it is if there’s some kind of evil conspiracy afoot - which ironically puts you in the same category as the Mail, albeit on the other end of the ideological spectrum.

No googling, honest, but I'm going for Trading Places?

Anyway, what are you doing on here, shouldn't you be trading derivatives or setting up an export business overnight to the US to take advantage of Cokehead Kwasi's Cunning Plan.

So many plodders in this country; teachers, and nurses, and doctors and care workers ,and there are even people who drive buses and lorries, and plumbers and bricklayers and the like. Apparently there are literally millions of them, all supported by a mere handful of billionaire landowners and media barons. No wonder we're in such a mess.

Investors getting advance intel on a budget and making money off it is, of course, extremely believable. I’m talking about people on here who claim that Kwarteng and Truss’ entire budget strategy is just a ruse, and part of some personal get-rich-quick scheme.

It’s a fun story to tell yourself, and a convenient way to explain the actions of people who are seemingly on another planet to you, but the reality is a lot more dangerous - they actually believe this stuff.

It's quite possibly both, SBT, but the amount of influence that shady money has on the Tory party, and how it can be seen to benefit both those making the policies and those donating to the party, should point you towards genuine corruption as a motive too.

Ignoring that possibility in the face of all of the evidence seems a bit daft to me. It's not a fun story about faked moon landings, it's a deadly serious concern that anyone with a belief in democracy should worry about.

It’s not a get rich scheme for them. Certain people have bankrolled them to what they want, power, they’re now getting paid back.

Now imagine that 50% of your total income was being spent on rent instead of something you own and that's what millions of people are dealing with today.

Very pithy, but the UK is still, and always will be, part of Europe.

I'm not widely traveled, but having been to the USA and a couple of countries in both Asia and Africa, I definitely feel European (rather than British) when I go abroad.

There's a European 'vibe' amongst the travelers I've met on other continents.

To paraphrase that famous Australian

"They can take away our freedom (of movement), but they cannot take our affinity"
