This isn't tame at all. People have a lot less disposable income now than the ERM days. Wages are stagnant and everything is being ravaged by inflation. A lot of people are going to have a tortuous winter.

I had no disposable income then and ended up in significant negative equity on a very small flat which was a terrible purchase and the monthly payments became 50% of my total income. So actually yeah it was tortious and my disposable income off my main job was negative

Investors getting advance intel on a budget and making money off it is, of course, extremely believable. I’m talking about people on here who claim that Kwarteng and Truss’ entire budget strategy is just a ruse, and part of some personal get-rich-quick scheme.

It’s a fun story to tell yourself, and a convenient way to explain the actions of people who are seemingly on another planet to you, but the reality is a lot more dangerous - they actually believe this stuff.

Well the person I was centring the “plot” around went on the record today saying that they found the budget “very useful”. They’re not even pretending.

It's quite possibly both, SBT, but the amount of influence that shady money has on the Tory party, and how it can be seen to benefit both those making the policies and those donating to the party, should point you towards genuine corruption as a motive too.

Ignoring that possibility in the face of all of the evidence seems a bit daft to me. It's not a fun story about faked moon landings, it's a deadly serious concern that anyone with a belief in democracy should worry about.
