Have to say Labour have played this quite well so far in my view. Now we're back to a government that focusses on policies (however mental!) they now put their's up in retaliation.

And they can't help but look normal in comparison!

They're fair and sensible and exactly the kind of thing I'd want to see and that could make me consider which way I turn at the ballot. Appreciate it's all they can do at this time, but I'd still like to see the reality rather than an easy soundbyte whereby it's part of a fully costed manifesto and what the trade-offs are to achivee. Only then can we really make an informed decision, until then it's the public equivalent of posting on here for likes.

Decriminalisation of the user is where it should head rather than legalisation of the drug. The resource should be into the disbanding of all of the drug networks and crimewave that it funds. Making it accessible will not eradicate the issues that co-exist.

Nah, legalize, regulate and tax it.

Gets the cash out of criminal hands, stops funds being spent on policing and brings money into the treasury all at once.

And what do you think they'll do for cash? All say, fair enough we've had a good run and let's go and get a job and be upstanding members of the community or move onto other crime and push other people to more dangerous exploits so that those higher up the tree still get their filthy piece of the pie?

Decriminalising the user stops wasting resource on low end dealers and users clogging up the courts and wasting police time whilst at the same time making the suppliers accountable with longer sentences broken down by police who now have more time to deal with those a rung or two up.

Miss you in the Ukraine thread BTW, your boy Putin is taking one hell of a beating. The ultimate fate of your chosen strong man leadership style.

That’s alright I’m missing you on the council threads when you conveniently hop off when The Great Leader Lucas gets it in spades. You defended for a bit before doing a predictable hasty retreat

I’m glad the war is over - I must have missed it - at least now we don’t have to waste another £2.5 billion on arming Mr Zelensky though I’m sure he’s a bit sad as he’s probably got another Vogue shoot lined up looking all serious and concerned to fund his Cayman Island account a bit more

The leader of the PD declared they’d already lost a couple of weeks ago, I know a few people who didn’t bother after he’d said that. They also refused to enter a coalition with the 5 Star and then dithered about doing so before again confirming they wouldn’t do - if they had done they’d be in power now probably.
Politics is very different in Italy to the UK though because of the coalitions, there were several governments between the last election and this one.

Genuine question.

What would you do with the £2.5 billion instead?

The vast majority of people that get involved in the drug trade start off small time and work their way up.

You have the issue of dealing with the people currently involved but you cut off the supply of new recruits in an instant.

My concern is a bit like 2008. The problem then wasn't the banks as such - they were a problem, but not insurmountable. The problem was everyone queuing up to take their money out exacerbated the issues already at hand.

The real unfair thing is savers here are again penalised - you could get 7% bonds fixed with the CBS around 2008

A healthy balance is needed. A rate of 4 - 6% from the BOE with appropriate reward for savers is a fair balance

But this isn't about the present government. This about what's going to make me vote Labour. I've already said I'm open to that if they can set out how to build it properly. The answer to every question can't be, yeah but this lot are awful. The problem with most is being so nailed to colours that you'd think it were your football team. If the Conservatives listed everything Labour are being cheered for and Labour offered to deliver what was in last weeks budget, the responses would be poles apart. I think so many would vote one way or the other regardless of policy.

Anyway, people wanted policy, they've now got policy.

This isn't tame at all. People have a lot less disposable income now than the ERM days. Wages are stagnant and everything is being ravaged by inflation. A lot of people are going to have a tortuous winter.

Tame, my arse.
