Very poorly worded (typical Tory tact) but I guess he’s trying to say, how are we struggling to get genuine Ukrainian refugees through the system and into the country and yet we can’t stop illegal immigrants circumventing the system

Can you not read?

Anyway, if I want to vote for Keir Starmer, that's my prerogative and I don't have to justify it to you.

Just like if you want to vote for a bunch of corrupt racists funded by a child murdering despot then knock yourself out, that's your perogative.

Probably, but a) it's a long way away so time for that to change and b) it's pretty irrelevant as I live in a safe Tory seat

who is behind that then, or is it nameless? the council does seem to stumble from one mess to the next.

had a quick look at the account but couldn't see who was behind it. interesting, given how long it takes the council to respond to anything, they seem to have managed to get someone out within hours to take down the estate agent style boards.

I understand there's now a download option for Coventry residents to show their frustration.

Problem we have is there's no real option, you've got these idiots or the Conservative. Lib Dems & Greens locally seem to be virtually non-existent.

Coventry Citizens Party – Your city. Your voice.

Apparently they are standing candidates in all Coventry wards.

Observer backing the campaign

Coventry Confidential campaign group launches new telephone hotline to ‘hold the city council to account over issues’

It wants to hear from residents about concerns they have regarding councillors and the council so they can give people a collective voice.

The funny thing is I live in a conservative council controlled area and with the exception of the bin dispute see all the same issues. Potholes, especially are a real issue. It’s almost as if councils have to cut their cloth according to their means and their means is controlled by central government who have for over ten years been cutting council budgets both in real terms and actual terms while also loading other issues on them from other areas who’s budgets have also been cut. Still, man of the people Sunak has addressed the cost of living crisis by taking yet more money away from councils so don’t expect your local issues to get better soon regardless of which party runs your council. Council elections are coming up, vote in the opposition and see nothing change. The issue is Westminster.

Fucking useless twats. Making it has hard as possible (probably on purpose).

Back in the Commons Harriet Baldwin (Con) suggests it would be helpful to issue the visa application form in Ukrainian.
Kevin Foster, the immigration minister, says the government is looking at providing guidance on filling in the form in Ukrainian and Russian.
But he says that translating the form itself into Ukrainian would require “a reasonably significant amount of technical work”. He also says it would be hard to find enough Ukrainain speakers to process the forms.

Agreed. The council have failures to address, and IMO far too many of the councillors are in it for self-promotion and career prospects. But do I see that changing if we vote this lot out and bring in people from other parties, be they Tory, Lib Dem, Green or even this Coventry Citizen's Party? Nope. Will still attract the same type of person who will still have the same budget problems as now, which are only likely to get worse under a Tory Government. Same shit, different coloured rosette.

lol so the labour Council in Coventrys shortcomings is down to Tory funding

try seating in front of the Milkman at the Ricoh when the thick moron stood up against I think Doncaster and said “these fuckers (Sisu) aren’t getting hold of my ground or a certain relative of another council leader who as well as not liking our goalkeeper said his relative has secured thousands of jobs in Coventry by agreeing the deal with wasps. There was of course the other total imbecile who now spends his retirement years doing embarrassing photo shops who decided to use the trust as a political weapon and fell on his arse

While what you might say about the quality of the councilors may be true, it is a undeniable fact that Westminster and Westminster only had reduced their essential budgets.

It is a deliberate ploy to make the electorate blame cuts to local services on the local council rather than the government.

Not entirely, but it's a significant part of it.

Are you saying that there's no correlation in the funding available from Central Goverment along with services being transferred from Central Government control to Local Government and a council's ability to function? Given more stuff to pay for and less money to pay for it.

If it were the other way round and this was a Tory council and a Labour govt you'd be the first to claim it was down to lack of funding.

Clearly this has happened across the last decade at least, but in the interest of balance a large council tax increase was permitted via central govt approval in the last couple of years.

Can you point to an example council doing what you’d like to see under similar circumstances? If not it kinda suggests that despite your default of response of whining about individuals the problems are rather more systemic.
