Lee Anderson was Labour before he became an MP, but Farage has strongly suggested that a Labour figure is set to join. Seems inevitable at this stage.

I would have thought an insurgent party like Reform would have prioritised new/outside voices but apparently not. It seems obvious that Jenrick, Zahawi etc will go straight into high-profile roles within the party.

Maybe people will enjoy the drama of the heel turns - I think the danger is that these defectors just look like the usual opportunistic, disingenuous politicians.

It happens with every new insurgent party. Several MPs defected to Labour when they were an up and coming force in UK politics.

There will come a time when the Greens will actively recruit Labour/Lib Dem MPs.

He was a Labour councillor. He often draws upon his experience in the citizens advice bureau when talking about the welfare system too.

Reform UK’s Lee Anderson says he ‘gamed’ benefits system in former job

The Ashfield MP said he used to help people get on sickness benefits when he worked at Citizens Advice.

Indeed. Why take on complete unknowns to balls-up running the country when you can have people who've already got experience of ballsing up running the country.

Problem there though is that Jenericks record is in government is awful. Covered in controversy and failure. When he was Housing Minister failure aside he was marred by scandal of overreach to the benefit of a major Tory donor, as immigration minister he oversaw the highest number of boat crossings in history, although he did get that childrens mural painted over in a asylum facility because obviously that’s why families were crossing the channel, to see a mural so swings and roundabouts on that one. Plus as he pointed out himself yesterday he was part of a government who made the country worse.

Feels like the man currently in pole position to become the next Prime Minister agreeing to pay tribute to the country’s most notorious paedophile in exchange for cash should be a bigger story.

He resigned in government…

All politicians, irrespective of what colour rosette they wear, are self-serving and put their self-preservation as number one.

There will be a rump of Labour MPs flocking to the Greens before the next election. If not before, then after they’ve all been wiped out. I don’t blame them, their party (like the Tories) has lost its way and deserves to be destroyed.

This defection goes one of two ways:
1. Attracts flagging tories to Reform as Jenrick is popular with Tory members (what members are actually left)
2. Turns off a big constituent voter of Reform (non-voters) because the perception they’re Tories in disguise sticks
3. (Bonus) that Jenrick turns out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing to takeover Reform - he’s clearly driven by personal ambition

Yes it is. Even when Starmer won his personal ratings were poor. Politicians are career centric now and no longer look at the role as a privilege

How many people know who Ian Watkins is and what he’d done? It’s clear that he was tricked which is why isn’t making headway in the news.

There’s been people duped into RT’ing Jimmy Saville - it was a trend way back when to trick celebrities way back when.

The worst shout out he did, imo was ‘up the ra’ because whether or not it was joke, the meaning was clear.

You don't think the potential PM would/should know about one of the most high profile sex offenders in recent history?

Even ignoring this particular story or whether he was tricked, it's pretty awful optics that he's doing these shitty little videos anyway for 50 quid here and there.

100% this.

Farage seems to be able to do whatever he wants with little consequence.

I do think this kind of thing will become more prevalent though. There is a lot of time between now and the next election and there will be all manner of cock ups and embarrassments for him in that time.
