He’s clearly not
He’s like many of us just trying to do our job to the best of our abilities good at some stuff not at others

The right wing didn't appoint him. Arguably not the left either.

He set out with a list of things that his parliament was going to achieve and an agenda for the five years in office, Start working down that list, it's what those who voted for him want. Ignore the noise, it's just noise.

You'd be surprised how many would respect that stance whether they voted for him or not, but as with most of this very poor crop we've been delivered in recent years, they are more interested in the social media profile.

He was appointed because of who he wasn’t rather than who he was. With that came a clean slate and I think actually a lot of goodwill to repair the damage from the last government, but he soiled that slate almost immediately and is painfully lacking in charisma or a firm belief in anything.

As you can see even on here, people will not give him any credit no matter what he does.

He clearly is. I've been saying the same thing from a long time before he was prime minister. We've had many relaunches, pledges, missions etc all trying to articulate something. The problem is that Starmer and the other droids surrounding him don't know what that something in aside from saying what they think the electorate wishes to hear at any given moment.

What's he good at? I know he "can chair a meeting, he can draft a minute, he can hold a press conference, he can stay calm in an interview" (as long as the questions are fed to him well in advance).

How does the public benefit from these skills? I can chair a meeting, write a minute, stay calm in an interview, hold a press conference. It doesn't mean I'm a good fit for prime minister.

What does he actually believe in?

Starmer’s squandering of a historic election victory is a tragedy nearing its finale | Rafael Behr

The tactics that gave Labour its huge majority in 2024 were no preparation for government – and the prime minister has proved he has nothing more to offer, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

It’s a reasonable answer
Do you think people rise to dpp having no skills but those listed?
I don’t know the man but I am quite similar apart from when I’m not

Fair chance the scheme was put in place by the previous government to be fair. You can tell by the vague reporting by Sky.

He's a barrister, great. It still does not mean he's got any particularly relevant skills to be the prime minister. He's surprisingly terrible in debate even for a barrister.

?? What scheme??
I have never heard of the last government to hand out money to sex offenders??
And they say crime doesn't pay.

It's not the only time either it's disgusting.

He's lying. The current PM is clearly employing professional sex offenders and paying them for doing it.

It was a scheme introduced by the previous government.

The offer was pulled - presumably by this government.

Try again!

Prove it was.
As I haven't seen any stories out in the media about the last government handing out money to sex offenders to leave the country I've heard this on 2 occasions now.

If I'm wrong I will stand corrected.
But don't patronise me saying 'try again' u goon.

I watched him in PMQs yesterday, rushing over himself to deliver lines he clearly had prepared and thought were hilarious. Came over as an incoherent, unconvincing mess. Which he isn’t alone in being in Parliament, but for the PM the bare minimum should be the ability to communicate clearly.

There was a lot of love for Ken Clarke after his QT slot last week, even by those who vehemently disagreed with him over the years, because even at 85, he was still clearly more than a spokesman and if anything demonstrated just how low the bar has now been set across both sides of the house.

Not surprised he elicited that response. Always how I saw him back in the day when he was in a more prominent role and would pop up somewhere like QT.

It was introduced in 2006:

Facilitated return scheme (FRS) (accessible)

www.gov.uk

It's been therefore policy for part of the final term of the previous Labour government and all of the subsequent Conservative ones.

There are various different schemes.

We've been paying foreign offenders to leave the country for nearly 20 years:

Facilitated return scheme (FRS) (accessible)

www.gov.uk

So the notion that this is new and exclusive to this government is nonsense.

Fair enough, I wasn't aware of that, as I've never heard of it,

But i find it an utter disgrace that they have to give criminals money to leave the country, just kick them out, they deserve nothing.

The reasoning will be that paying them to leave now will cost the state less than keeping them around. Which it probably is, but the optics of a cash prize for being evicted aren’t good I agree.

In 1 ... if you like to rape, try your luck with this diamond cock ring
In 2 ... If fighting is your bag, then we have £250 for you to fek off
...
In 8 ... murder and dismemberment, don't worry, if you're found guilty, we'll probably let you out by mistake anyway

And Keir's special prize ... a speed boat. Commit crime whenever you like and just pop back over the channel and bring a few mates.

An excellent choice sir, you’ve won your very own toolmakers’ kit, a replica of the one Sir Keir received from his father each Christmas.

I really cannot see that Starmer has any solid political beliefs or political skills. He bends with the wind depending upon who it is that he is trying to please.

He was left wing when he wanted a position in Corbyn's shadow cabinet, maintained that stance when seeking election as party leader and then switched to a more centrist position when addressing the electorate as a whole at the general election. Now, perhaps unsurprisingly, he u-turns on a regular basis.

He is absolutely one of the worst - if not the worst - prime ministers that I can recall and I'm in my 70s. That said, I do feel that the country is very short of talented politicians across all parties.
