Starmer and Reeves branding Reform's policies 'racist' is depressing. If they haven't figured out by now that talking that way pushes people towards Reform and co. then they might be past saving.

My best man, who holds dual Iranian and British citizenship, is now seriously worried about having his British citizenship revoked if Reform get in.

You can sarcastically say ‘doctors and nurses’ but decent hardworking immigrants do not deserve this shite.

Yep he spoke well of not very personably but he’s moving centre right and more rather than centre left

Feels like it's a planned takeover, Labour shooting themselves in the foot if not the head.

The last election felt the same when Reform split the centre/right vote so Labour were bound to get in.

They're middle managers at best. Anyone with any sense would be able to mop up a generation of voters. But let's remember they only got in due to not being the Tories and reform splitting the vote.

You clearly said it's the "same lazy bullshit that was peddled 20 years ago." Meaning it was bullshit 20 years ago, so it is bullshit now. Yet I just proven it wasn't bullshit 20 years ago..... so, therefore, I won't immediately write it off as bullshit now. Im not saying it is true, but im not saying it's not possible either. People, you included, said they weren't eating carp out of fishing lakes, hmyet they were.

What are you on about calling me names???

This is what im saying @Sick Boy
I never said you called me names. I was merely saying that people walking around with blinkers on, denying facts, and calling people who are re-telling facts, liars or racist etc, are the exact people that'll get reform voted in. It happened once before with brexit. It'll happen again in 4 years' time in the GEs.

Mahmood demands migrants earn right to settlement in UK

New tests will include learning English to a high standard, paying National Insurance and not claiming benefits.
www.bbc.co.uk

Having seen from various colleagues how hard it is to get indefinite leave to remain, I find it hard to believe that they are the group of migrants who most need clamping down on. You need to speak the language, have a job, do the citizenship test etc.

I’m sure there are people who want them out of the country anyway, but I somehow doubt they’re looking for an excuse to vote Labour at the next election.

I’m convinced that Labour is now just doing policy by media headline to try and win over right wing voters who will never vote for them anyway.

Exactly, look at your wording. Your exact words were.....

It’s the same lazy bullshit about people from Eastern Europe that was peddled 20 years.

So basically, it was bullshit spread 20 years ago (which I've given you facts and proof itwasn'tt), therefore,it'ss bullshit now.

It wasn't bullshit 20 years ago, though you can deny it all you like. I get you want to hate Farage/Reform. And i get, by admitting Eastern Europeans, DO eat carp out of fishing lakes (that again, I've backed up with fact based evidence) you also have to question that they MIGHT actually be eating swans too. You can't keep calling it "lazy, peddled, bullshit from 20 years ago, when 20 years ago, it wasn't lazy, peddled, bullshit. It was fact!

So, you didn't believe they were eating carp 20 years ago? You dont believe they're eating swans now? 1 of the 2 has already been proven and backed up as true. Which is why I said, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. But you'll still deny it as lazy, peddled, bullshit. Even if there was evidence!

At this point I'll presume you're on the wind up as I've said multiple times that I am talking about the claims around eating swans.

Can you post FACTS/evidence that shows people from eastern Europe were eating swans 20 years ago and/or are now?

Then choose your wording better. You can't lump them in the same arguments as bullshit when 1 clearly wasn't. Im not on the wind up. I just want to know, do you agree that Eastern europeans eat carp from lakes? Or was it lazy, peddled, bullshit, the same as #SwanGate?

Come on, dont be a politician and avoid it. Yes, or no! Do you agree, it WASNT bullshit 2p years ago and they eat carp out of fishing lakes?

I've never once said that they are eating swans! Point me to anywhere I've said they're eating swans?

I've said multiple times, they eat carp (which I've given you evidence to prove), and therefore, I wouldn't be the slightest surprised if they also eat swans and geese. I've not said anywhere that they are. I've not said they are as a fact!

In reply, you denied #SwanGate as "the same, lazy, peddled, bullshit from 20 years ago"! Which I've proven wasn't lazy bullshit, but in fact, TRUE! All im saying is it wouldn't be a surprise if it were to be true!

There's a thing that troubles me here and that as you know is buy to let or HMO's they bring nothing good to a community, and the idea that it is a business model to base our economy around is frankly a blocking of any aspirations of owning your own sorry and all that but it's exploitation pure and simple unless they have a charter that they only ask £50+to £100 more a month than their mortgage cost as over the lifetime of ownership it potentially is a market that can't fail?
Their is somewhat of a feeling that many of the buyer's are actually from overseas that we don't know where the money is coming from
There's obviously a need to have rental properties available for people that want them but the difference in monthly cost between buying and renting is way off. Even after my mortgage shot up when I renewed its still about £600pm cheaper than renting in the same street.

And while not every landlord is terrible and does the absolute minimum they can get away with in terms of maintenance the percentage that do is far too high.

We've created a situation where people see buy to let as a path to prosperity. For many its a case of buy a property and just sit back and watch the money come in. That's not most peoples idea of hard work.

At the same time as saying reform are racists Starmer seems intent on spending the Labour conference doing some sort of weird Farage tribute act. If you're going to claim their racist don't start announcing similar policies!

Young people who have been out of a job or education for 18 months will be offered a guaranteed paid work placement, Chancellor Rachel Reeves will announce at the conference today.

Those who do not to take up the offer could face being stripped of their benefits.

Under the new initiative, every young person who has been on Universal Credit for 18 months without "earning or learning" will be offered a guaranteed paid work placement.

Reeves will promise "nothing less than the abolition of long-term youth unemployment".
I would like to think that this would be, at worst, employing young people on minimum wage however I suspect I'm going to be disappointed.

We already have a huge problem with apprenticeships. We've got a decent number of people in the workforce now being paid sub minimum wage under the guise of apprenticeships. And those low wages are government subsidised.

They're not really apprentices, they're doing entry level jobs for shit wages. If the apprentiships didn't exist those roles still would and employeers would need to pay the wages themselves and pay minimum wage.

I expect this to be similar. The only people who will benefit will be employers getting cheap labour and companies paid to manage the scheme.

Which is why I've said there's no evidence or proof. Therefore, im not saying it has happened. However, as history dictates, I wouldn't write it off out-of-hand as bullshit either. IF somebody were to put forward damming evidence tomorrow of swans being caught and butchered, it wouldn't shock me.

That said, im not saying it has, nor have I said that it has happened.

But I've been called a bullshitter before when I told people about carp being filleted at the side of Barston lake. People dont want to believe it. Whether its because they dont want to admit they were wrong about certain ethnic communities? Admit that a certain politician they dislike was actually right all along? Or just dont want to admit that they were wrong? I dont know, but just look at history.

This isn't true. People from EU member states just have a form to fill in. Took 5 mins to do and an answer with the decision came no more than 48 hours later. Indefinite leave to remain is different to citizenship and it comes with caveats too. The one I remember most when doing it is if you're to stay outside the country for X amount of months (possibly 24 months?) it's automatically removed anyway.

I know that not everyone needs to do the citizenship to get ILR but many do. There are often many hoops to jump through.

Is there any evidence that people on ILR are a negative impact on the economy? Or are harming UK culture in some way? I don’t understand the need to clamp down on these people.
