Interesting comments from Sir Trevor Phillips:

- ‘mostly normal people you’d see in country pubs or HT at a football match’
- hooliganism on the fringes
- Tommy Robinson more capable of pulling in a crowd the size of Blackpool/Cambridge than Starmer or Badenoch
- People are sending a message to Westminster

The rehabilitation of Tommy Robinson’s image is entirely the Labour/Tory establishments fault.

Issue is people being driven towards him because there's literally nobody else "representing" their concerns.

While you have people like shmmeee just with fingers in their ears shouting racist over and over without leaving the house.

What has been apparent in the last few days on this board, is that most people who claim to know a lot about politics, actually are incredibly ignorant about the world and have proved as such.

Almost none of the regular posters had ever heard of Charlie Kirk, which is staggering considering how incredibly famous he is in the world of politics. It just proves how much of an echo chamber many are living in.

Even after the news broke of his death, some were still clawing at things he supposedly said, and despite pretending to have a bit of sympathy, were still looking at angles to try and insinuate he deserved it, whilst being careful to not actually say the words. A few leftist celebrities have been destroyed on twitter for doing similair things, and for getting their facts completely wrong.

This protest is another example. The media are trying their hardest to knock it down, and a few people on here are desperately trying to swallow it and dismantle it - but they're failing. Hence the scale up in calling everyone a racist.

Like with the shooting of Charlie Kirk, the desperate media smear campaigns, and these insults, what has become clear is that the left are losing badly at the moment and this is all desperate behaviour.

Thankfully it looks like more and more people are seeing through it.

100%.

The electorates trusted Labour and Conservatives to deliver lower immigration from 2005-2025. Both parties have failed, so if we’re doing things democratically, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Reform is polling where it is atm.

Shmmee posts a lot of polling, but it’s often devoid of context. For example, the electorate by and large don’t mind healthcare workers, students and skilled workers. However, they don’t support people overstaying their visas nor several dependents coming with them.

One of the most disturbing responses to Charlie Kirk’s assassination was many people would performatively say ‘RIP - terrible news’ but then list all the terrible things he said. In fact, a lot of things people have quoted are devoid of context. Even Alistair Campbell on his public said Kirk said ‘Gays should be stoned to death’ which was shut down by prominent gay conservatives such as Andrew Doyle and Dave Rubin.

In any case, it’s toxic to list all the bad things your opponent said before their corpse has gone cold. I don’t think conservatives would do the same if a prominent left activist was gunned down on campus.

Even The Guardian felt it was appropriate to mention Kobe Bryant was accused of rape when reporting on his death.

Is that gonna do much when you're essentially dealing with cults? You've got convicted criminals (Trump, Robinson), drug-addled Bond villains (Musk) and fascism enthusiasts (Farage) as the face of it.

Folks who would usually differentiate themselves from others on something like law and order chuck their positions in the bin when it comes to their guy. Norms have gone out the window here.

What seems more likely at this point is that the shooter was either right wing or politically homeless.

I will say what makes the conversation more frustrating and difficult to keep constructive is personal traits and characteristics being assigned to people on ‘the left’ or ‘the right’. People don’t like it going in one direction but keep doing it in the other.

By ‘right’ leaning media outlets or just horrible people on ‘X’ and so on?

Fox kept it factual:

Break-in at murdered Minnesota lawmaker's home under investigation | Fox News

Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman's home broken into days after she and her husband were fatally shot, with police finding evidence of searching but nothing reported missing.
www.foxnews.com

MSNBC:

Trump gave vastly different responses to Charlie Kirk's and Melissa Hortman's assassinations

Why Trump’s different responses to Charlie Kirk and Melissa Hortman's assassinations matter.
www.msnbc.com

This is trash journalism. Charlie Kirk was a personal friend of Trump’s and considering Trump was close to being assassinated on live TV, can anyone blame him for rolling out the eulogy for Kirk?

The same outlet had Matthew Dowd reporting more or less victim-blaming Kirk for his own assassination before he was pronounced dead.

What is the utility of it? Particularly when the quotes are clipped without full context or intentionally misrepresented.

The penny dropped for me when I had a conversation with my mum. Long story short, I was uni and everyone in my social group was ‘Remain’ (including myself), so was surprised the polling was 55:45. My mum worked in a pub and recalled a convo where every single person said they voting ‘Leave’, supposedly cross-party sample. Thats when I thought that Leave might actually win. Jeff Bezos did say trust the anecdotes when they conflict with the data.

You are conveniently leaving out a lot of their and similar coverage trying to implicate Tim Walz into the case. I certainly saw no major figures from the right calling for political violence to be stopped or for the rhetoric to be toned down. The president has continued to speak about Democrats as though they were enemies of the state. He has continued to go on about left wing violence when he incited violence to prevent the transfer of power.

Yet here they are demanding it when Kirk’s killer isn’t even left wing. It’s disgusting hypocrisy.

This was carrying on the restrictions the Tories introduced. In any case, 431k net migration is far too high in the eyes of the electorate. When polled, the electorate would say they want a “fair immigration system” whereas now they don’t care, they want the numbers to be lower (0-100k) full stop.

The small boats are increasing too which is generating the most anger with the electorate. The costs are also mounting.

The killer was a ‘leftist’, the bullets were carved with ANTIFA and pro-trans messages. That’s been confirmed by the FBI.

There’s unconfirmed reports that trans groups were aware that the assassination was going to take place. Which may tie in with the post below that shared in another thread.

Reports that the killer was a fellow Republican or an Israeli paid hitman (etc) are just wrong. He was radicalised leftist.

Probably and the public are seeing that many of these students are either a) being many dependents with them b) transitioning into low income work and c) overstaying/violating their visa conditions.

Most of the electorate expect students to leave or transition into highly qualified, high paying work after their studies. This isn’t happening.

The bullet engravings actually all appear to be references to a game and/or to quotes from the Nick Fuentes part of the bro sphere. He came from a family with a deep gun culture and that was in deep Republican territory.

A bit like Luigi Mangione and other Gen Z murderers these cases aren’t as straightforward as they appear.
