The Angela Rayner debacle is humorous because her behaviour is at complete odds with her politics.
No idea where she got £5m from but I think the 'property empire' stuff some of the press is throwing about is a bit misleading.Fair play for overcoming poverty but how on earth is she worth £5m and has 3 houses despite the stamp duty issue?
If she is still in the papers next week she won't be in post much longer, what a hypocrite she is.I wonder what Starmer will do now that Rayner has admitted underpaying her Stamp Duty Land Tax.
He would probably like to sack her from her ministerial roles but he knows he can't remove her as deputy leader because that is within the gift of the party and not him. He supported her at PMQs this morning,so my guess is that he will dither for a while and say we must await the outcome of the parliamentary investigation. He knows these things take time but if he's hoping it will blow over then he's probably mistaken.
His best bet is if she resigns. She has shown no signs of doing so yet - preferring to blame her tax advisers - but she may have little choice if she continues to make the headlines.

From what I've read she had a family home up north which she is in the process of getting divorced so doesn't live there and according to the BBC news report I heard has been removed from the deeds. Then there's the standard grace and favour property in London as deputy PM and the flat in Brighton.
Think the bigger question is if she's moving to Brighton how will she serve her constituents, although nobody seems too concerned about that issue with other MPs.

She claims to have had her "tax advice" from her solicitor when buying the apartment. Due to her "complicated" situation it was naive not to have engaged a tax expert.

Then there’s the issue of removing herself from the deed to reduce her stamp duty bill from 70k to 30k.
Considering Rayner’s public pronouncements on tax avoidance, it’s quite the conversion.
For what it’s worth, my view is that stamp duty should be scrapped.

That’s what you say. Having had a divorce with kids myself I know there’s lots of reasons to put different addresses down for different reasons. I don’t know her living arrangements but if she’s trying to get rich through tax avoidance she’s going a funny way about it.

Genuinely not seen that before. If that's her position, how can she do anything but resign? Surely this only ends one way and the longer she hangs on the more she makes her own party look ridiculous.

A conveyancing lawyer will not be aware of the full tax implication.
With her "fortune" I'm pretty sure she would have an accountant who was better positioned to give the correct advise.
