You want to talk about politics? The fella who believes in chemtrails and posts islamophobic bullshit on twitter?

okay, you do realise that Reform expected to win by a much, much bigger margin? As currently unpopular as the Labour government is Reform could only win by 6 votes shows that they are nowhere being in a position to win a General Election.

No, but they have massively put their foot in the door and shown they are now a serious contender as an opposition.
Unfortunately the way votes work they'll struggle to get anywhere in a general election (over half a million more votes than Lib Dems but only 5 seats compared to 72) but they're shaping politics from the sidelines. The country is waking up to the woke agenda and they're fed up with it! Labour only got in because it was either them or the tories. It used to be that a "protest" vote for any party other than Lab or Con was a wasted vote. It's starting to seem that a vote for either of those 2 is now the wasted vote!
Whether people like it or not, politics is changing, people are fed up of the same old, main stream politics.
Like Farage or not, he's changing the way politics works.

No you said I said something I didn't say, read my original post and i'll accept your apology

Stop trying to wrangle your way out of being shown up for talking shite and not being able to read.

It is perfectly possible for Labour to have a bad night but Reform to not do as well as the would hope to do.

If you can't grasp that then we are done.

Any idea what the turn out was yet on the locals?

Talking about it at work, almost everyone is pretty disillusioned with politics in general, some asked if this is 'the one with Matt Western', almost nobody bothered to actually vote. Unsure of course how that affects results as they could have been voters from all camps, but the general apathy is important to understand. How do you encourage more to get out, have a vote, be engaged, make a difference or even care. The lack of understanding should also be a worry.

What were you expecting within 1 year?

- NHS waiting lists coming down/ Funding been increased
- more military spending
- trying to buy back nuclear planta
- started sending illegal migrants back
- breakfast clubs for kids
- improving workers rights
- sorted the doctors and train strikes
- no longer a pariah state

There are some things - the pip payments has been done to harshly without thought, and the WFP could have possibly waited a year rather than a straight away thing. But they’ve not been a disaster the media has made out

4D chess.

Some of the interpretations on here require a high level of skill in political spin or delusion…

Runcorn was Labour’s 49th safest seat where Reform had roughly 5% of the vote share in 2024. It doesn’t paint a good picture for the majority of the 90 or so seats where Reform came second in 2024. Places like Hartlepool, Barnsley and others will surely flip from Labour.

Before the election, it was my view that Labour just isn’t equipped to deal with the countries issues and to be frank, it’s probably worse than I expect.

This started with tories implementations end of government

- more military spending

because of trump

- trying to buy back nuclear planta

- started sending illegal migrants back
highest number of arrivals up by 40%

- breakfast clubs for kids
pilot scheme

- improving workers rights
Good

- sorted the doctors and train strikes
because doctors and train strikes instrumented by unions to impact tories. what about Birmingham Bin strikes?

- no longer a pariah state

Disagree with this - increased funding allowing more time, and streeting scarily using Private providers temporarily has done this. Ending the doctors strikes probably helps aswell

Local issue - which admittedly, I’m not a fan of the monopolies Labour hold over Birmingham and indeed Coventry council. The threat of losing your seats needs to be there

You know what I mean it’s during their term, not a GE. Protest votes are common. We’ve been seeing this for a decade now.

It’s not anything for Labour. They had barely any elections. Runcorn was a close loss that looks like it would swing back at a GE. I know everyone wants to talk about Labour all the time but this is a Conservative collapse. Labours collapse would be the next set.

Nah, not having that. You can all argue about who it was best or worst for, I'm not getting involved, but the Conservative collapse happened previously at the last GE.

Right I’m not answering comments until I get a 500 words essay summarising this from people now.

Why are there no local elections in West Yorkshire this year? - BBC News

Polling booths across England will be busy on Thursday, but West Yorkshire is an election-free zone.

I'm not sure how that's relevant? You were all arguing about Runcorn and the 15k not the locals. The GE was the Conservatives worst defeat in over 100 years.

Id' also add that as the last locals happened mid-term of the last gov't then surely a good part of the swing had already happened or that would counter what some are using as the reasons on here for different outcomes. You've quoted it against my post that the Conservative collapse had already happened.

Can you link it for the hard of thinking, of which I'm clearly a part this morning.
