Amongst all the bollox (by all sides) one question remains unanswered-

From a financial point of view do Wasps RUFC need CCFC to play at the Ricoh?

What if CCFC played elsewhere-would that put a strain on Wasps finances?

Maybe a bit but it was daft to put all your hopes on this being the case

Unsure. Depends on whether they can get stadium sponsorship at a high enough level.

I always believe that we’re a bigger value than a rugby team on the basis were a football team and also a founding premier league team

I have a feeling we’re about to find out though

Depends how this plays out.

Removal of a competitor = good from their POV.

Potential reputational damage = bad from their POV.

How sponsorship of the stadium would play out without CCFC would probably be bad, too.

It would effect them yes. Might be a killer blow but they would be far better off with a regular tenent

Might give space and time for them to buy Widnes and branch into Rugby League...

Generating revenue and interest to get their sponsorship out there I would assume. As for the OP, no they don’t however the consequences for not having us there will be dire if we fail to exist although most are putting this responsibility solely at SISU s door

Presumably most of the repetitional damage would be with football fans who generally don’t attend the rugby anyway. I think it would have a minimal effect.

I think Wasps not needing CCFC will turn out to be along similar lines as ACL ‘washing its face’.

I swear the Ricoh naming rights ran out about 45 years ago, didn’t they say a while ago they were in talks with someone or did I dream it?

Ultimately they need to embed themselves culturally, and be seen as a Coventry team in order to get fans to turn up regularly and buy into Wasps as a local entity to be supported.

Being seen as the body that removed the city's football club could do serious damage to that.

Probably doesn't help sponsorship negotiations when the terms of the stadium sale are currently up for debate in court...

Most rugby fans I meet actively dislike football. They’d probably see it as a plus that “gay ball” had been removed from the city. I’m just not convinced it’s a big issue.

I think their predictions on moving to Coventry are, in general, proving to be false. I suspect that by now they anticipated a lot more regular paying customers, a lucrative sponsorship arrangement on the Ricoh and profit that would look like paying off a significant portion of the bond issue. As none of these have happened they are in a perilous financial situation. When F&B contract, casino lease, hotel lease etc. come up for renewal they will all be worth significantly less without our presence.

I think us being there delays the inevitable though, their Coventry project is doomed to fail. They might just fancy rolling the dice that without us being there they will be able to hoover up the support or they might think the extra income is more beneficial. They don't need us to keep going as I don't think they will keep going either way.

Yep if it’s seen as hostile then they will never be embedded in the city and probably the reverse.

It's not just Rugby fans they need. The hardcore Rugby fans, after all, will be going to CRFC anyway.

btw, I know plenty who like both!

Help & advice required.. Am I alone in this? - every time I see anyone in a Wasps shirt I feel physically sick.
Should I go to the doctor?

No, it's a natural instinct. It's worse when you see/smell one at a CCFC match. I needed a week off work with that one.

I just think people need to stop placing their hopes in whether or not wasps need the club and which team is worth more to the city, financially or otherwise. Have the council not proven time and time again that they couldn’t give two ***** and will not do the right thing just because we as fans want them to?

True. On the flip side a sponsor gets far more exposure with two sports teams getting coverage i.e visual when its on tv and even everytime its name is mentioned i.e on sky sports - lets get a report at the "ricoh" where the sky blues are playing blah blah" This would attract a better sponsorship deal. Every time its name is mentioned it improves its familiarity as a brand name.

They would prefer a deal (revenue) but have a walk away point which because of the legal action is nearer than it should be. The point for fans is that there are no good guys, but we have an interest (imho) in SISU winning, not WASPS.

It would never happen, but if all 40,000 of us who went to Wembley could get together and say to Wasps “We’ll pay for the next 10 years of Arena sponsorship for a total of £12 million, on the condition that CCFC will play here for 10 years”, it would only work out to be £30 per person per year...and be a better deal than the reported figure of £10 million Ricoh paid for 10 years of sponsorship. Like I said though, it would never happen...just wishful thinking on my part. Sorry

On that basis, Ricoh are probably loving this dispute. They are getting a lot of mentions out of it.

I prefer the deal where we pay £0 each to them forever and they fuck off

Here are my thoughts... One for the Sky Blue (un) Trust. I will try to edit to mention their buddies the corrupt council. Don't hold your breath though...took me about half an hour to get this pic on here. Would love for this pic to go viral....

Are Wasps in as much trouble as has been rumoured on here, do we think? If that is the case, then surely the income from having us there would be something they'd want.

Even so, I'd expect the sponsorship of the stadium to be more lucrative if we were to stay put. Football bringing more exposure than Rugby tends to and any long term sponsor would be happier with more exposure, surely?

It might knock a fair few more off their attendance too, which I don't think has been anywhere near what they'd have been hoping for as it is.

Maybe short term, they could argue it might not make a difference us being there. But if they really are in trouble financially with this bond, they might just need us then.

Premiership Rugby: Minority shareholding sold to CVC Capital Partners for £200m

Doubt they need our 100k per year when they're in line for a windfall from this...
