That’s why you don’t let both Baka and Max go.

Bremang is an odd one, been at the club 3 years and not played a minute in any competition or pre season I think. Seems pointless for his career being at the club

Can get a loaner that may better than those 2 but not godden though? Maybe a specialist big man

I would like to see max start next game. See if he can impress.

I just think on our budget we’ve got to be realistic in that a) we can’t afford the wages of 25 Championship level players so if injuries happen we may need to fall back on players we’d rather not and b) we more likely than not will be back down in L1 next season and having a couple of well known players around for continuity that we don’t have to scout is worthwhile.

I’d give Baka his last year to impress. Max I think deserves regular football at his age.

It’s not just the strikers, players like O’Hare need to step up their game too. He was more productive off the bench last season and is now being asked to be one of the key players a level higher, that’s a big ask.

In his 23 starts he scored no goals, all of them came off the bench (Oxford, Blackpool, Southend, Ipswich FA Cup)

Development player. He was 17 when he joined, not many break through at that age. Suspect he'll move on at some point, not sure he'll make it with us but it's not particularly unusual. Callum Wilson played 2 games for us prior to breaking through at 20, the same age as Bremang. Most players coming through the development team just don't make it. The few who do break through make it all worthwhile.

If the recently promoted teams throughout the last few seasons have taught us one thing... it’s that you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket! I’d hold onto a few of the lads but we do need additions! Let’s face it realistically we’re not going to be world beaters, we’re going to be mid table at best!

We technically can gather the money to pay for an additional striker and depend on the loan market for the rest! Look at Swansea getting Brewster and we’re known for developing players so I can see us getting a few decent young lads on loan.

Swansea got Brewster, Guehi and Gallagher mainly down to their manager who is the old England U17s coach

Its going to be a tough season if we are looking at Baka, Max and Godden to come up with enough goals ro keep us in the league. I dont think Baka and Max will be strong enough or good enough at this level and Godden who is the best finisher out the 3 does not have enough pace to be a threat on his own. In my opinion we need 2 pacy loans up top and a mobile holding midfielder. If we can get these 3 positions covered and get the injury list down MR then can look really closely at players we have that need a time to see if championship is there level.

For MR it would be a massive bonus if a couple from Shipley, Pasks, Drysdale or a Williams step up easily or even the younger players a Burroughs, Eccles or Bapaga break in and play well. We need more in and im sure MR has a few lined up but i think he will do it in a controlled way and in time some will be loaned out and some will be shown the door.

Although I think we definitely need another striker I’m more concerned about who’s going to be creating the chances, would like to see a prem loan brought in to play one of those 2 cam roles.

So none of O'Hare, Allen, Shipley, Hilssner, Jones, Jobello (and I ought to add Kastaneer) are capable of creating chances? If not why the hell have we signed two of them during the summer?

The problem isn't creating the chances - it's ensuring that one of the two CAM's pushes forward to support the striker so he isn't so isolated. Willing to run off the last defender from deeper to do that. Surely one of the bonuses of playing 2 CDM's and CAM's is it should free someone up to do something like that - a free role if you will.

We've got quite a diverse set of CAM's capable of different things. O'Hare and Jones are the more dynamic running at people, Hilssner looks capable of picking a pass, Allen and Shipley will do a lot of running are the most suited to that supporting the striker role and aren't afraid to have a pop at goal from the edge of the area.

We've got plenty of people capable of creating chances, we just need to tinker with the system to make sure it provides adequate support to a lone striker.

If we could get one that'd be OK - don't think we could afford two decent ones even if we sold all the other strikers bar Godden.

The club are going to have some take some calculated risks - Martin or someone of that ilk would be the highest earner if he came here, could be finished and has no resale value but on the other hand could score the goals to keep us up

Agree with this,I have a feeling someone like that will come in even if it’s just one we are gonna need it,I’m not convinced Godden will be enough to keep us up alone.Ive seen enough of Baka to know it’s not gonna work i don’t see him here after this year,Max also I feel will move on.

I would move both on their not at the level mate we need seen that against Swindon I’m sick of seeing Baka with them performances it’s like it’s acceptable & we’ve come to just accept it,a striker must have good link up play and score a few goals at least

Yeah i am talking perfect world

I agree prob keep 1 of them

Baka better on his day but his day frustratingly doesnt come enough

Maybe worth keeping max as he has mentality to score overhead kick in playoff final lol

You could only move both on IF you could bring two in to replace them. Godden and A.N. Other isn't going to be enough over a season.

To bring in two you'd have to complete clear the decks so Ponti and Bremang going as well as those two to give you three first team options up front, and even that would need a bit of bankrolling from the owners to be affordable. Or one bought in and a loanee.

It is quite a question as to which to keep.

I reckon Baka has more natural ability but has a tendency to play within himself. Almost like he's embarrassed to use his size to his advantage. It depends on which Baka turns up on any given day he's so inconsistent.

Max on the otherhand as you say is more limited but he can pull that absolute worldy out of the bag from time to time which Baka doesn't seem capable of.

Although I'm certain he'll get moved on I still think Ponti off the bench if we go two up top chasing a game could be a useful asset because our problem is we don't tend to have a body in the box poaching or picking off scraps. That's Ponti's game in a nutshell. If we could get someone like Shankland who's of a similar ilk IMO but an upgrade great but it's a type of striker we need as an option but one MR doesn't seem to value particularly highly preferring more all round ability.

our system is quite a defensive one with the back 5 and the 2 infront, we were hardly free scoring last season but didn’t matter so much due to our defensive record, you’d expect we would concede more this season and therefore will
need to create more, just don’t think it’s a simple as getting strikers in.

I see it as a back three with four in front. I think it's a good compromise with the extra CB there as cover but having the two ACM's rather than one also gives us more adaptability. With one you can often get a DCM to sit on them and mark them out of the game.

I agree the important thing is to learn how to utilise those two better to support the striker. We can bring in as many strikers as we like but without support they'll spend 90% of a game struggling to get involved.

However I don't think that means having to bring in more CAM's. I think what we've got is fine and a good mix but they need the tactics to give one of them a bit more freedom to help out the striker.

Up front however I think we could do with someone a bit more clinical even if we do adapt the tactics. Godden is fine but an improvement on him would be useful. Those below him I don't see as clinical finishers (bar Ponti who is unlikely to be given a go due to deficiencies in the rest of his game)

Good points well made. I think all the attacking midfielders you mentioned will have a part to play especially with the hectic fixture schedule. Robins rotated that position really well last year.
I do however think there’s a space in our team for someone with a bit of pace and directness to be an option there if we are chasing the game, wouldn’t of minded Jacob Murphy back but just seen he’s gone back to Wednesday on loan. Maybe Izzy brown from Chelsea, Luton seem to be chasing him.

I think Jones will be that option. Also O'Hare to be a direct option, albeit lacking the pace.

I would be surprised if we go for a Chris Martin type. Its financially high risk for no potential return. We don't want another Darius Henderson!!

MR favour's one up front anyway, which requires a mobile forward who can do a lot of running, which naturally means he is more likely to be looking at younger players than Martin. I'm sure he intends to bring a forward in to challenge Godden for his starting role, but I suspect a Prem loan is the more likely avenue he will take.

I think O'Hare AND Jones together are too similar in the way they play to be together. They both want to get on the ball and move with it all the time.

You need an Allen or Shipley who will try and break the line or get the ball and look to play it through (I guess Hilssner as well) to provide something different next to one of them.

It’s not beyond the realm possibility that we are improving the squad while thinking about building a squad that could bounce back from relegation and yo-yoing to establish ourselves in the Championship in the medium term.
