I didn't think Scowcroft was that bad as a target man - really strong in the air - just thought we couldn't get the right partner alongside him (forget who was about at the time)

Stern ?Adams used hin out wide a lot but i thought he was fairly effective ..

Suffo as well i thought was very much like Moussa ,a flair Player ,and obviously in a league above.

If we look at money spent for return many for Coventry stand out. Collier was one but we allegedly got the money back. We signed David jones (the manager) at the same time as collier and he was as bad. Cost £250,000 scored the best own goal I've ever seen against stoke and I think ended up in Japan!

Another was Ashley grimes. When Gould took over and we had to buy a new team grimes was lauded pre- season in the main stand as the big signing from man utd. He was dire.

Drinkell was a flop and going back in time Bryan king a goalkeeper signed from milwall for a then high fee of £60,000.

He played right hand side of midfield for us with dele and john up top and sheffer on the left wing under Adams. We really missed him when he left, decent footballer

I remember Sandy Robertson joining in the '90s amongst a hullabaloo of being a promising Ranger's starlet; only to play less times than I have fingers on my 'leisure hand', and look incompetent in so doing.

Am I just being Scottish-racist on this thread? Must be the prospect of them planning to take their North Sea oil back....

Robertson was indeed a flop of a signing. I think he played less than a handful of first team games for us.

The worst thing wsa that we had had Chris Marsden on loan, failed to sign him up offering crap wages, and lost him to Wolves. We then brought in the flop Robertson instead. Disaster.

Drinkell....scored a few at the start and then went rapidly downhill. I think he believed he was still the big man from Rangers and acted that way.

As for Ashley Grimes, as you said the big star signing from Man Utd and absolutely awful. Not up for the fight at all. Quickly sold off a year later to Luton, and nearly caused a riot with Les Sealey when dancing in the centre circle, and goading fans, after Luton had beaten us at home. Tosspot.

Am I the only person that thought Scowcroft was garbage? Although that was more down to the genius of Micky Adams playing an out and out target man as a winger. Adams would've played Peter Crouch as a winger if he had him.

To be fair though Crouch is so tall he could have one leg on the wing to cross the ball and the other could stretch into the box to knock the cross in.

Well how many do you want?

Colin Hendry
Runar Normann
Dean Gordon
Dean Holdsworth
Juan Manuel Sara
Vincente Egonga
Onandi Lowe
Graham Barrett
Eric Deloumeaux
Patrick Suffo
Courntney Pitt
Trevor Benjamin
Youseef Sofiane
Matt Heath
James Scowcroft

I could go on
and on
and on
and on....

Some of these are unfair.

Colin Hendry did a decent job for a player near the end of his career, got him on a free and put in some decent performances. Not brillant but better than some of those along side him.

Juan Sara was a loan signing, played 3 scored 1 and looked pretty good from what I remember. Think he was recalled to his parent club.

Onandi Lowe 2 games 1 goal, not a bad record....just a shame about his criminal one. IIRC that goal may have kept us up that season, and again I thought he looked decent.

Eric Deloumeaux Defensive midfielder who was played at right back here, thought he did okay. I remember his long range passing was exceptional and should be been played in his familiar position.

Patrick Suffo clearly a very talented player who had the abilities to play at the top level, had flashes of brilliance but disappointing I suppose as he never consistently showed his talent.

James Scowcroft decent target man played out of position

The rest however were a total bag of shite. Engonga, fuck me he was shit.

That Irish chap ... Sick note Keith O'Neal
I spent a whole season sitting just behind Keith O'Neal and for a good part Julian Joachim also at HR, and at the time they were our 2 highest paid players, Footnote: Joachim dressed like a schoolboy from the 80's, he used to rock up in a pair of battered old HighTec Silver Shadows and crappy old tracksuits.......................on his money?

I think he was only on loan, but I'm confused by Leon Barnett's career. Seemed a terrible player, West Brom paid a lot for him but loaned him out, he got a few games for Norwich but they let him go, popped up at Cardiff for a few games, now gets a trip to Wembley for a FA Cup semi with Wigan.

We didn't play Eastwood on the wing. He was garbage!

Never have I seen a striker pick up the ball on the half way line and then play a ball down the line to a winger ... and then just stay on the half way whilst we attacked!

Terrible footballer at championship level, his record speaks for itself.

Couldn't even be arsed to get himself properly fit most of the time either.

Good job Coleman can't spend money on players in the Wales national job because from what I was told, Eastwood was the only one he had a say in, in his time as Cov manager.

Eastwood was the first player to score a hat trick at the Ricoh if I can remember but don't let that cloud your judgement:

Appearances: 81 (43) - Total 124
Goals: 18

Bar one purple patch for 5 games, he was utterly woeful. In fact bar one season in League One for Southend has he ever been any good?

Hendry was appalling, absolutely appalling. His performance vs Middlesbrough opening day of the Premier League relegation season put the writing on the wall for us.

Although to be fair, every single player on the pitch that day was appalling.
