Heard from a source that the Sky blue name is now copyright and owned by man city and if coventry want to use it on anything we have to ask for permission. Why was this not done by us years ago. Guess money talks.

Firstly, it wouldn't be copyright as copyright is an automatic right given to a creative work, it'd be a trade mark.

Secondly, if it were registered we could legitimately claim prior art as we have been using it for ages. It's not as simple as first one there wins.

Thirdly, check the trademark register yourself, it's not registered in relation to football at all: https://www.ipo.gov.uk/tmtext/

Fourth, and most worrying of all. Sky Blue Sam is dead! : https://www.ipo.gov.uk/tmcase/Results/1/UK00002107761

You'll have heard of prior art then? As my law lecturer said there are some concepts you need to know or you will fail.

Biggest load of crap I've ever heard. Coventry City FC will ALWAYS be the Sky Blues as far as I'm concerned!

remembered from my youth, a book with all the nicknames of clubs in, and Man City were always called the "citizens", never the Sky Blues. in those days we had a full sky blue kit with dark blue trim, whilst they wore white shorts.

I actually had a fairly drunken but well meaning argument with some man citeh fans back in our first season after relegation from the top flight about this very subject.....

1 of them was a bit of a club anorak & told me that they pinched their kit from the Cambridge Uni sports teams...specifically the rowing club....

Therefore, their kit was originally known as "Cambridge Blue".

Weird how they nicked a rowing kit & Jimmy Hill nicked a boating song.....
