It's not a natural position though and doesn't optimise the team. If he's central, he can drift left or right. If he's deployed out on the right in a 442, he has duties that come with that position. If he is allowed to roam free and float about, those duties get neglected. He could be stuck defending all game, helping the RB if the opponents are strong down that flank. He could be horrendously out of position, shold he be allowed to roam freely.

There is flexibility in most formations during attacking phases. But allowing a RM to roam freely in a 442, is not a good idea IMO. Add that to Rudoni being our most influential player, you want him on the ball as much as possible. It's a big no from me. We have too many decent central midfielders to not have 3 in there.
On your first point, understand the concern however this is the role Rapha played last night. And is similar to his postion

Furthermore, we have played Rudoni on the flanks during Lampard being in charge for example Oxford away. And he has played on the wing for Huddersfield and Wimbledon

Since the 4-4-2 transforms into the 3-1-6 in possession, which in turn would look more like a 3-1-4-2 you’d have Rudoni in the centre allowing more overlaps on his side and forcing us to be a bit more direct in possession of the ball since we’d have two strikers Instead of an additional winger.

Get your point on signing a striker but with what we’ve got, think this would get the best out of them as they wouldn’t be as isolated.

(Rudoni would be in the 17 role)

I’m not saying you’re wrong but it strikes me as odd.

Why would you defend differently on one side of the pitch to the other, leaving us noticeably weaker on the left?

Possibly because we want a constant outlet further up the pitch? Just a guess.

PREDICTED TEAM

Rushworth
van Ewijk - Thomas - Kitching - Dasilva
Grimes
Torp - Rudi
Sakamoto - Simms - Wright

BENCH

Wilson, Bidwell, Brau, KKH, Allen, Andrews, Raphael, EMC, BTA

That's what I'd go with as well.

Your suggested bench shows how much stronger the squad is these days, especially when you consider we have Dovin, Eccles, Lati and Sheaf to come back from injury. Not to mention the enigma known as Bassette, although I don't think we will see him in a Sky Blue shirt this season or possibly ever.

I’m sitting in the home end with friends who are Derby fans. Hopefully I can keep my emotions in check during the 0-5 win 😅

Is Wright ready to start again after being injured pretty much all of pre season? Does EMC really need dropping?

Start Simms. See if he can follow up with another goal.

What I would play.

Think there’s something in the double striker and would like to see it in a league match. Still the same 3-1-6 shape in possession but giving wright and Rudoni the right to roam and find pockets. Be surprised if he plays it though
Think brau looks good going forward but his defensive positioning is a worry, looks like he will take time to adapt
