If you were to ask a few premier league football fans to name any of our players or our current manger or ask those same fans to name a few WASPS players not sure they would be able to name any, nut potemtially more likely name a few WASPs players.

Also who will get the most national media coverage and will be on live TV the most - currently it is WASPs.

PS hate WASPS but just pointing it out.

Even with the huge number of free tickets and the publicity around moving to the Ricoh they were still only getting an average of about 15K a game with a couple of exceptions (the first game and when all the Leicester fans turned up).

We are averaging over 11K in the third tier. Their attendances are on a par with ours in the championship relegation season. I have no doubt if we went back up or even got to the PL our attendances would be much higher than theirs.

Really? I'm not so sure. OK, so the World Cup is on, but really they're preaching to the converted there. I would really - and genuinely - struggle to name rugby players or managers, etc whether that be from club or at national level.

Rugby will never compete with football either nationally or globally.

You are right about live TV....but we have already been on this season. Not sure about premier league fans knowing players of either. I guess most have heard of Mowbray and Armstrong often been in news. Not sure of anyone else. But not sure your avg football fan could name any rugby player outside of the internationals.

And not just football fans. I would say most people - fans of the game or not - would be able to name players at Man Utd, etc. How many seriously would know the names of rugby players?

I doubt it.

They are probably too busy playing soggy biscuit while watching their mates play with dead animals.

Not in football terms but still bigger than Wasps.

Fancy the shame in being a franchise and living in the shadow of a 3rd tier football club.

I couldn't name a single rugby player without looking it up. I know Wasps had one player who had waited all his life to play at the Ricoh and then left them!

A quick shout around the office and no one here has the slightest interest in the World Cup or rugby in general, not scientific I know but an indication. Compare how things are now, when apparently the World Cup is happening here (which I only know as someone posted about rugby fans smashing up a train station) and the football World Cup even when its somewhere that means matches are in the middle of the night.

That's all relative isn't it. Conferenace games are live on TV so there will be teams in that getting more coverage than us, doesn't make them bigger than us as next to nobody is watching.

It's an irrelevant point with respect to the question/original statement, which was that wasps would never bigger than CCFC. You questioned this statement and the answer is no they aren't bigger than CCFC, however rather than say this you would rather deflect from people being negative about wasps by putting the club down instead.

What were our attendances when we were playing 35 miles from where we should have been playing?

What are their attendances now they are playing nearly 100 miles from where they should be?

Difference is NTFC supporters wouldn't go and see CCFC as they, like many others, wouldn't pay to see a team they didn't support. It seems people from Cov don't mind watching a bit of franchise rugby.

Different sport, different rules, always been nomadic, etc etc

The more interesting stat would be what % of the fanbase that were attending prior to stadium moves continued to attend following the move. Given Wasps assertion that a huge % of tickets sold are to CV postcodes could it be that a similar % of their fanbase stopped attending.

The fact that they have the level of attendance they do is more a reflection on those that choose to attend and support teams being moved around the country than the comparative popularity of the two teams.

It's also all relative, and live attendances at games only tell part of the story. A sell out vs Leicester where 50% of the crowd are tigers fans doesn't mean that wasps have 32k fans turning up, and lack of segregation makes it difficult to calculate this. However we know extra how many cov fans turned up for the Gillingham game. I doubt wasps would get 30k home fans for a 3rd tier rugby football match, and that is why we are ultimately a bigger club than wasps.

Luckily the Northampton fans turned their back on CCFC during our time there. No doubt you'd be furious if CCFC had been handing out free tickets and the locals turning.

Yet for some bizarre reason you feel the need to defend Wasps here?

I doubt Wasps would get 30k home fans at any level of play, maybe a European semi final or something. The Leicester game would have had 7-12k away fans that day I reckon, there second biggest game of the season was the European decider against Leinster (which was likened to a European tie against Real Madrid and sure to be a sell out) they got about 20k and that was with the free tickets going around.
