Half the rent would then have effectively been CCFC's via ACL.

ACL took out a loan to purchase the lease. There was an agreement that any profit ACL made would be used to make overpayments on the loan so until that loan was repaid our 50% stake would have generated no income for the club.

Of course originally we were supposed to get 50% of the freehold but CCC grabbed that all for themselves.

I believe the December deadline relates to allocations for land use in Rugby’s Local Plan, which is less specific than an actual planning application. So SISU could go that far without really committing to much – although the location(s) would then be in the public domain. I guess it will have to be on the fringes of Coventry, and the least controversial area would be in the vicinity of the airport. But it’s not a prospect that gets me excited, and it could take a mighty long time because the Local Plan itself won’t be adopted until around next summer and is only the first step.

For inclusion in the city plan do you have to actually give details of a potential site or just say we need 60 acres? The way the Coventry city plan is talked about is that any site that becomes available is to be used for housing but I'm not sure all those sites have been individually specified.

There is a potential problem down the line. If SISU don't get something in a city plan, either in Coventry or nearby, then any new owner will have a struggle to provision a new ground. As even the experts seem to think this is essential that could be a worry. How often are city plans drawn up?

For me the best option is probably by Ansty Business Park. There's a big piece of land (more than 60 acres) sitting to the south of the road to the business park (to the east of the A46). That's as near to Coventry as makes no practical distance. It also already has a junction on the motorway and a walkway under the motorway. There's food and drink places on the other side. Only drawback is that its a farm or something at the moment so could be tricky on the planning front. Although there's little in the way of housing nearby so no NIMBY problems and building the business park might have set a precident.

Unless it is already designated for something else
http://www.anstypark.co.uk/news/Sainsburys-Ansty-Park-plans-receive-approval
http://www.anstypark.co.uk/Masterplan

though I suppose there is still space there, not filling up fast, that site was available 10 yrs ago.

Ansty Park would be awful, inaccessible by pedestrians, the nearest centres of population such as Walsgrave are about a mile away, would clog up the Eastern by-pass on matchdays as is the only road that serves it, the Ricoh may be seen as remote but this is in the middle of nowhere, if there is to be a new ground it needs to be in Coventry, may need to think outside the box but a failing retail site, such as the camping store near Hearsall common or an existing sports ground such as Copeswood or Coventrians, lots of room and can compensate them with a new facility. To me part of the buzz of going to football was the walk up to the stadium, the Ricoh isn't as good as highfield road but queuing to get into an out of town car park has limited appeal.

For info -

"Hi

Thank you for your email.

As you may appreciate, many of the discussions going on behind the scenes are confidential at this stage.

All I can confirm is that the club had a very positive meeting with the FL last month and they are satisfied with the club's progress.

I am unable, at this stage, to say when any public announcements will be made.

Kind Regards

Be very interested to know what, if anything, was shown to the FL to indicate progress. We're now into year 3 of a 3 year project for a new stadium. Even if you allow the 2 extra years for slippage surely something should have happened by now?

When this whole charade started I thought they'd buy some land and just drag out the planning process. After all they could always sell it on at the end. They've not even managed to get that far!

Just another unmeasurable positive statement.

Just like this one in David Conns article 10 months ago http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/dec/23/coventry-city-wasps-ricoh-arena
Fisher acknowledged the widespread scepticism at Sisu’s claim it will build a new stadium but said the company has recently made “giant strides” towards completing on land “on the outskirts of Coventry”, at a location yet to be revealed.

I can't see that anything has happened & I sure as hell don't trust anyone in this whether they are Wasps, ACL, CCC, RBC, SISU etc. etc. till proof is furnished.

Maybe the discussion with RBC?

It's been six months since the meeting and maybe things have developed since -

From the minutes: "CCFC have not had any plans drawn yet as want to discuss with RBC initially – as would ideally like to get political buy-in at an early stage."

What date was the email? Progress on what? Building a stadium? Obtaining a site? Working on a deal with Wasps for long term security of tenure? Progress on playing in Coventry? Apart from the positive meeting about something, she has not given anything away.

was the meeting with the FL specifically about the stadium I wonder? or was it a general financial review to check the budgets etc. I assume that the minutes of the SCG meeting will clarify when published because surely they would have passed that on to the SCG wouldn't they? Its positive news that the FL is happy with CCFC progress why shouldn't/wouldn't that be shared with the fans or their "representatives"

The Ansty Park development is a partnership including CCC and RBC so you might expect CCC to be aware of any proposals on that site. Haven't RBC already said there has been no contact.

Some people don't see everything through sky blue tinted glasses.

They'll never be as big as CCFC? Remind me again how big Sky Blues are again! Third division football and drawing in 11,000 fans from a city of 333,000 (edit) in somebody else's stadium.

Yea, right!

CCFC will always be bigger than a franchise rugby team, that is despite all the advantages that the franchise now have over us.

More loved and closer to the hearts of people from the city/area anyway. Though, you'd struggle to believe it reading his and other posts from people on here.

The fact that a self-claimed CCFC fan is claiming that Wasps are bigger is slightly strange.

Quite clear how you meant that in reply to somebody saying they won't ever be as big as CCFC.

Oh really, good of you to let me know!

I was questioning how big people honestly think CCFC are.

Whatever link you want to make with that is down to you.

CCFC are not a big club.

They're in the third division, draw only 11,000 fans from a city of 330,000 and don't have their own stadium.

Whatever disillusioned opinion others want to take is down to them.

You posted the question in a sceptical manner to someone saying they won't be as big as CCFC as in like really? You sure about that? Which suggests you disagree with his initial claim that they won't be as big as CCFC.

You already embarrassed yourself yesterday, don't do it again.

Not a big club in football but were not comparing to a football club, pretty much any established football league club from league 2 to the premier league is bigger or same size as Wasps

In the world of football we aren't big at all. Without the sky blue glasses we are a tin-pot club.

Still, we are bigger than Wasps and always will be. What does that say about them?
