It’s an old thread to be fair. Shouldn’t have been bumped though.

I disagree Deity but apologies if you took it that way. There is a thread already that most have contributed on for RIP and condolences, but I was looking back through my posts regarding Cyrille and had totally forgotten about this. I actually think it''s perfect timing to compare the attributes of my 2 all time favourite players one who has passed today.

I take your point as it is a bumped thread. I just believe that today is about paying our respects to one of our family who has passed, not to be comparing the merits of his comparative ability against Dion.

Just watched a clip of the game at Sheff Wed, 6th round of the FA Cup. Cyrille scoring the first goal, pace, power, composure, total joy from him when he scored, and the 15,000 City fans in the Leppings Lane end, a great day and memory. I’ve been extremely fortunate to see 2 iconic centre forwards in Cyrille and Dion in my time supporting City.

Ignore the votes of anyone under 38 as they did not witness both players.
Anyone that did would love Dion but there is no rival to King Cyrille.
Everything about him was class and he was part of the cup winning team.

Can’t we put this on hold for a few weeks?
I too find it a tad distasteful. Please let the family and friends deal with the tragic loss.
Surely think of his closest and dearest at their darkest moment.
We will be short of topics soon enough so maybe some decorum at the min.

Two of the finest players ever to wear the shirt since I've been watching the City play.

Dion the better goalscorer, but Cyrille had so much in terms of being able to hold the ball up and make it stick up top.

You can only selcet one for your team.

To take all of the emotion out of it and to make your decision based on footballing reasons only, the following assumptions have been made:

Neither has done anything silly like refused to play, or signed for the Villa. They are both at the peak in terms of performance and fitness and are both paid exactly the same. The other ten players in the team around them remain constant and if we could select an ideal foil for either of them, we will assume they are both playing up front with the Robbie Keane that we had here.

Who do you want Cyrille or Dion?

Stop being so precious. It's not a competition to see who is the most upset and faux outrage at a thread based on appreciation of an icon. In a few weeks it will not be as relevant, nothing disrespectful simply discussing the attributes of two former greats. We're all adults, bypass the thread and don't contribute - it will soon fall off the bottom, but let's not pretend you're so emotionally scarred that this is upsetting.

That’s your opinion and entitled to it.
I’m not emotionally scarred as you say but I do believe there is a time and place for everything. Just seems a wee bit soon.
But that’s just me.

It's because you are doing it on the day of his death.

Personally I think Dublin was the better player, but it seems so wrong to say that today.

Just think there's a time and a place and on the day of someone's death you celebrate their life, not say another player was better than them. Just seems weird to compare players and anyone who thinks Dublin is better is surely not going to come out and say that today, on the day Regis died.

a mix and that’s what’s great about our support. A great man with a lot of people who knew him closer than we would ever imagine and must be in shock never mind grieving for the big fella who was suddenly taken away.
I hope and will pray for his family.

This is a moot debate, because we all know Biamou rules all CCFC strikers to have graced the shirt. All hail the king...

Hang on Biamou hasn’t scored yet! Marcus hall tops him! Everton at HR I recall :woot:. Oh and Oggy has scored more than him and that was in the Prem or top league.
Brings it home doesn’t it!

Always hard to compare players, I saw them both and without doubt at their best Cyrille Regis was the better player strength, pace, power, skill on the ball but Cyrilles best was at West Brom at City Dublin edges it overall. The early years of Cyrille at Cov we’re very ordinary to say the least but once John Sillett took over and changed tact the next 3 seasons 87 to 90 Regis was vintage but did lack goals on a consistent basis, Dublin on the other hand scored goals, made goals and defended brilliantly too. If I had to pick one it would be Cyrille Regis 1987 to 1990 all round class act.

I was reading through this and thought 'oh, Dongo's back'. Then saw a post from MMM and thought that it must be an oldie.

Agree with what Astute put though. I was lucky enough to see both players. Regis was probably one of my earliest heros. But as Astute pointed out, Dublin was not only a great front man, but he was a decent centre back as well, so that just shades it for me.

Dublins record was better, but he played as part of a far stronger side than Cyrille did.
Look at the rest of the squad that Regis played in, would Dion have scored that many goals in that team?

Both greats for the club, for differing reasons, and deserve full respect.

I saw both, Dion scored more goals per, rallied the troops on the pitch and was a good man to have in the dressing room. He probably kept us up for 2 seasons.

Cyrille however gave us the magic, he scored goals that last in the memory and on his day he could be unplayable and a joy to watch. I agree he took his time when arriving and would not turn up some games but the stand out reason for the 87 FA cup win was John Sillett getting the ball played in to Cyrille`s feet.

I would pick both and play Dublin at centre half.

It's not really disrespectful to talk about two City greats, I saw both players in a City shirt. Love Regis for his part in our greatest cup run and moment in history and appreciated his contribution in bringing other players into the game but I actually think overall Dublin was a slightly better player for City at least and his goals and contribution kept us in the top league year after year.
West Bromwich fans will be able to reminisce more about Regis in his prime and I also saw him score against us !!

Now about righteousness......Cyrille Regis died on Sunday night, it was announced yesterday that he had passed. I believe that rather than discuss the relative merits of Cyrille and Dion at this time we should have had at least a day to express our condolences and celebrate his great service to our club. I would suggest that is decency.
Now calling out a guy about incorrect spelling is pompous and condescending IMO.....

As I say, I believe Dublin was definitely the better player, but yesterday, after it being announced the Regis had died, for me it seemed really inappropriate to then big up Dion over Cyrille.

Regis only scored at a rate of over 1 goal every 5 games, so if I were to discuss Dublin's goalscoring record it comes across that I am then criticising Regis.

Yesterday should have only been about the contribution that Cyrille Regis made to this club and not been a day to compare him to someone who many see as a better player and make criticism of Cyrille's lack of goals.
