a lot of dog shit on this thread

gurney is crap yes, but oggy is miles above any of the other shite on local radio. He actually understands the game and can explain it pretty well, his commentary has come on leaps and bounds.

tbf the people complaining have probably been used to sky sports commentary of man united until about last season….

Think CWR aren't that bad, better than a lot of other teams have and even at their worst this season, they've been a lot worse in the past.

Remember when we were winning the league and any fans who wanted to call up and praise the players efforts were ignored and the presenters changed the subject to how shit our owners were as if we all needed to be reminded constantly of the bleeding obvious. Strangely any criticism of Wasps murky position wasn't permitted and calls were abruptly ended if I recall during the days of Linnell and Eakin.

The weekly call with Nick from Birmingham which win, lose or draw always went

"Stuart, I'm really disappointed with how we're doing" ...

"Did you watch the game Nick?"

"Err, No I didn't"

Was strangely reassuring and comforting that we could always rely on Nick from Birmingham in those uncertain times.
Hi Oggayy Hi Cloive, I wasnt actually at the game tonoight but I was listening to you two and I thought we were off it a bit tonoight, However that Dacosta sounds like he could be a top player one day certainly more than Daabo

Should bring Dave Bennett back when he's had a few in hospitality.
Would love to hear Clive back for one match if/when we get promoted, as he's been through the pain journey with the rest of us over the last 25 years.

Brummie Nick was the third member of Robins/Viveash Triumvirate that got us where we are today

CWR is ok I suppose but has got worse and there was a solid team there before. That’s why people are cross because they made it worse.
Who knows what happened with Clive - could have been his decision having been pushed out by Gurney to just doing commentary and not being the presenter . The fact he is still doing bits and pieces suggests he might have just wanted to semi retire

Such a shame though. This season would have been a great way for him to bow out. Gurney likes to reminisce about the Prem days but it’s Clive who did the hard yards with us for the last 25 odd years and it definitely would mean more.

I have no source on this, but I suspect Clive felt cornered into accepting worse terms than before with Rob now in the mix. I'm sure budgets are tight and given the choice, Clive chose to go freelance instead and step away from the coverage. It's a real shame because I do think it's a big downgrade.

It is a shame Geoff Foster was forced into early retirement owing to his health issues - Despite being a fan always found him the consummate professional and it would have been nice if he could have worked through the journey
Jeez! Every sympathy with his health but he was terrible.

Its entirely possible that the BBC member of staff who posted the initial headline is somebody who doesn't like Coventry City very much.

That interview with a worse-for-wear Speedie a season or two back was eventful. Clive couldn't stop apologising afterwards!

It's not complaining, it's people having an opinion on a football based subject on a footballed based forum.

As for Oggy, again last night he can't just be happy and positive. Always has to find different impartiality angles. Could not just give Cov the credit they deserved, it always swung back to Preston being poor. A bit like being contrary on a forum for the sake of being contrary.

I don't like his opinions, I find him always looking for the negatives and trying to doth his impartiality hat too much, and to me it doesn't make it a very good listen. It's very rare that he'll actually just take on board what people say when it's positive about Cov and agree with it. There will generally always be a 'but and a reason' with his next comments.

It's ok though, I'm just a random Cov fan on a forum that has an opinion. I don't need you to agree with me, I thought I would just clarify my point when you say 'there's a lot of dog shit on this thread'.

For the record , i like CWR , i like gurney .. the pile on is a bit weird but it happens every season

I don't think there's anything wrong with Gurney at all.

What amazes me is everyone (correctly) saying that Oggy and Gurney are a lot more impartial than other local stations, and its a much better listen as a result..... then a few months ago saying how "brilliant" Danny Fox was and he should be on every week.

Agree about Oggy, he's the best aspect of the show and still has great insights into the game.
A few times this season, he's spotted and pointed out defensive flaws where we have or nearly conceded goals just before they happen (Oxford away for example, and the one good chance Preston had last night).

I don't think he's negative about the team either, and just adds a more balanced perspective.
He remained positive and was one of the few that kept his cool when we went on that poor run of games.

Basically people are going to complain no matter what. We had years of people complaining about Clive and wishing we could have Rob back.

Then Rob comes back and its all Rob is shit why can't we have Clive back :ROFLMAO:
Just watched the Sky and CWR interviews with Lampard, it’s pretty fair to say that the club probably aren’t that keen on CWR.
We get this with every manager as well. Could it simply be they see the local journos several times a week for relatively long press conferences and interviews but the likes of Sky just turn up only wanting a couple of minutes to answer the same softball questions?

CWR seem to be criticised for both not asking the hard questions and also asking questions that are pissing players and the manager off!

Oggy is class. You ever watch a stream of a match and get the oppo comms and you realise how good he is in comparison.

That wba mupprt Andy Johnson just keeps making noises everytime a wba player does something

"GO ON TOMMO, RUN AT HIM, RUN AT HIM"

No good there Jonno,

"WHY DIDNT HE RUN AT HIM

Agree .. Gurney and Oggy better than most other teams local commentators… local radio comms is a thing on its own compared to tv or national radio.. for example the Hull ones are very good, but generally they are pretty mediocre..
